PREBELLUM:
September 1945 (Year of the Rooster [At Dau]): Fighting between the Viet Minh and the Hoa Hao breaks out in the Mekong Delta.
SECOND INDOCHINA WAR:
September 5, 1961 (Year of the Ox [Tan Suu]): In a separate action from the ongoing fighting north of Kontum, a civil guard outpost in the highlands is overrun by the Viet Cong. At the same time, there are reports of increased VC interdiction (road sabotage and harassing fire) of highways 7, 14 and 19 to hinder South Vietnamese reinforcement attempts.
September 5, 1963 (Year of the Hare [Quy Mao]) (US Advisory): Air America flight B-150 goes down after reporting heavy ground fire in Laos.
September 5, 1965 (Year of the Snake [At Ti]) (US Defense): Operation Stomp begins in the Ky Son Mountains.
September 5, 1967 (Year of the Goat [Dinh Mui]) (US Counteroffensive Phase III): ROK troops begin Operation Dragon Fire.
September 5, 1967 (Year of the Goat [Dinh Mui]) (US Counteroffensive Phase III): Operation Rapid Fire I is conducted in War Zone C. The VC resupply lane in War Zone C is coded as the Western Corridor or X-Cache Route; the terrain is predominantly marsh and jungle.
September 5, 1967 (Year of the Goat [Dinh Mui]) (US Counteroffensive Phase III): CW4 Robert H. Holt logs his 5,000th air hour while flying a combat support mission with the 155th AHC in the Central Highlands.
September 5, 1969 (Year of the Rooster [Ky Dau]): Battle of Thunder Road update: the enemy attacks FSB Thunder II.
September 5, 1970 (Year of the Dog [Canh Tuat]) (US Counteroffensive Phase VII): Operation Jefferson Glenn, the last US offensive in Vietnam, begins in Thua Thien Province.
