Default Hurican rita

Made the kid stand outside so I could take her picture. This was about 4 AM Saturday, just after the eye came ashore.
I was in the garage.

Default The Dirty Side

For those of you fortunate enough to not have experienced one of these storms, the dirty side is the east side. It's the strong side with more rain and stronger wind gusts. Katrina came through about 50 miles east of us. We only got some leaves and small limbs in the yard. We lost electricy for only 6 hours and the rain didn't even fill our ditch. Rita came in 200 miles west of us and caused more trouble than Katrina. The wind and rain were both stronger and lasted longer. Our homestead came out alright. We lost power for 10 hours and we lost one limb in the Bradford pear tree. Our daughter didn't fare as well. She worked last night (she's a nurse) and was asleep on the bed when a pecan tree came crashing in. Bricks, sheet rock, and insulation were flying everywhere. The headboard is smashed, but it is still holding the tree up directly above where she was sleeping. We just got through moving everything out of the bedroom that isn't waterlogged. It looks like the kids and grandkids will be staying a while.

I think Ma Nature has a grudge against the gulf coast. There have only been Three years where a cat. 5 hurricane has hit there twice in one year. What'd you guys do? Glad to see you out of the storm. Been there...
