![]() William M. (Bill) Foulke passed away on November 10, 2005, after a long battle with cancer. He leaves behind his wife, Sumrith, and six children.
Bill was born in 1946 and joined the Army in 1966. Over the next 20 years Bill would be stationed in Fort Home in Youngstown, Ohio, for three months and then Alaska, Houston, Bangkok, Indianapolis, and finally Mercury, Nevada. While he was in Bangkok (three tours) he met Sumrith, his wife. In 1983 Bill was assigned to Field Command Test Construction, Defense Nuclear Agency, as the Chief of Administration over a Joint Service organization involved in the construction of tunnel test beds for the study of nuclear effects on items of military interest. During this period of his life he participated in the migration of administrative duties from the typewriter to word processors and personal computers. In May of 1986 Bill retired from the Army and joined Reynolds Electrical & Engineering Co., Inc. (REECo) as the Vehicle Coordinator for Los Alamos National Laboratory. While working for REECo and then Bechtel Nevada, Bill would see the development and retirement of eight Test Directors and three Lab Directors. He has participated in over 60 nuclear shots, 20-some subcritical shots, and numerous exercises and experiments. He was often called on nights and weekends and he did his best to provide a high quality of service for the Laboratory traveler while staying at the Nevada Test Site. Bill was a sports fanatic. He LOVED Ohio State football and would make sure to let everyone know how good they are. Even in the hospital and in pain, all he wanted to do was talk about sports. He used to say sports helped him escape and forget about everything, even if it was only for a couple hours. Bill was so strong throughout his entire ordeal with cancer; no matter what, he always had a joke to share. He never let anyone know that he was hurting because that?s not the person he was. Bill was a very dedicated employee. He would have his chemotherapy treatments in California on the weekends and always report to work (in Mercury) on Monday mornings. Viewing is this Friday, November 18, 2005, from 9 to 11 a.m., at Desert Memorial Cremation & Burial Society located at 11 North Las Vegas Boulevard and Washington Avenue. Funeral services will be held at noon in Boulder City at the Veterans Cemetery located at 1900 Buchanan Boulevard. We invite you to view or sign the William Foulke Memorial Book and share a memory or story about Bill. This web page will be available until November 30, 2005. At that time we will create a book of all the messages and present it to Bill?s family. (Sorry, the memory book seems to be available on the Bechtel company website only.) ![]()
