Depressed
Just got the word my company isn't going to renew my contract as of August 1. Seems the Canadian company is pulling back and putting my job back in Canada. I'm not alone about five others have already rec'd their notices.
Well I will be 60 this year and my wife is now handicapper and this will put a real strain on me. I'm busy looking and have some options. I can't take any overseas work because the wife needs my assistance so I will take a real hit there. Relocation at this time is not a good deal neither since I'd have to sell and buy another home. Plus the wife would not like to be too far from the grandkids. Life does deal some strange things. Just when you think you are getting so close to retirement that now its seems as though its miles away. Have to be careful or I will loose all my life savings in a very short period of time. Health insurance is the biggest issue since Kath needs medical attention on a pretty regular basis. I can go to the VA for my meds but she's not covered since I didn't retire out of the service. Not exactly sure which direct to go but I have some time. It goes to say that nothing is ever etched in stone even when you think you have pulled all the right strings. Life moves on. But after Aug 1 I will be off the air for awhile until I get re-organized.

When you are laid off, get your butt to the uninployment office, First you get unimployment checks and then file for Government assistance (nice way of saying wellfair) its for the medical part of it. You paid for it all your life , use it.

I forgot to say, Get your money out of bank accounts and hid, They don't like paying if you got money. If you can prove you don't have money then just about every thing as far as living goes, is free, Food, Housing, medical.

I'm sure sorry to hear this, Boats. Being the same age, I can only imagine how you must feel. Some scary stuff at this point of our lives. This has been a fairly common scenario in this part of the country with the tech industry, what with the dot.com bust and out-scourcing of tech jobs.
Stay positive and stay tough, Bud. My good thoughts are with you.

Most times change turns out for the best. We ain't through with this hump yet Boats , you keep movin and I bet it turns out alright. You got a lot of brothers and sisters here if that ruck gets to heavy. Peace Boats

I know exactly how you feel Boats, with one exception ?? at least you have gotten an advanced warning ???. Hang in there
?Downsizing, restructuring and all the other names corporate America can come up with doesn?t make it any easier to have a career ended through no fault of your own ... sucks no matter what name they give it

Thanks Guys - I know its just another page I'm turning. Yesterday took the wife to the doctor got her cast off but her foot still looks pretty bad. She's just miserable and knowing that I will have to find another job with benefits has her worried. I told her I will always be there for her and not to worry.

...one day at a time, and we got your back,... ...sorry it took a while to get on this thread, had stuff going on here with my kids both being under the weather, both with colds, and pink eye, plenty of tissues, and meds to go around, swear the school systems know exacty when it's gonna hit as it always falls on winter recess,...... ...keep pushin', and keep the faith,... ...

Sorry for your recent problems.
But, and as Ron rightly inferred,..."Work The System". After all, why should those never working or ever wanting to work in the first place, be those MOST ALWAYS benefitting from The System, INSTEAD? Whatever,...Good Luck to you both, and again as Ron quite wisely inferred, get any large holding$ in names of others. Strange isn't it, Boats? The worse you can show yourself to be on paper in America, the less cares about anything in the world (food, clothing, housing, and even medical) one (many also) has. Neil
