Thought you might like to post this:

In 1954 my father and Colonel Scott attended the National War College in Wash. DC (I have a copy of the original orders). Dad was West Point 1934 and the colonel was two years ahead so they had known each other for 20 years. He lived down the street in Foxhall Village and when I was 12, he used to invite me down to his house and tell me war stories. The war stories were all hands flying past each other, but I do remember sitting on an elephant foot that was a stool. And I looked around at all the Flying Tiger aircraft hanging from the ceiling in the den. He would crash into a table but his P-40 (always the right hand) always prevailed while the "other" plane crashed into the firplace. He gave me a copy of God is My Co-Pilot and the autograph in Look of the Eagle says," Washington D.C. March 7, 1956 To my friends Evelyn and Pete Ward with best wishes--Bob Scott".

From 1959-60 Dad was Chief of Staff of MAAG , Saigon, Vietnam. I lived over there as a teenager and taught English in a Chinese school. The headmand, Mr. Chan, could not do enough for the Colonel's son. Mr. Chan always spoke of his days as a Chinese pilot with Gen. Chenault. I was 17 so I just wrote it off to another war story. He spoke of the General and Bob Scott as if they were old friends. But one day he did ask for some items from the PX , and I took them to his house., There on the wall were black & white photos of him, Chenault, Scott plus many others. That was a good lesson not to be prematurely skeptical.

In 1991 the Flying Tigers had their Fiftieth Anniversary (1941-91) here in San Diego. I took a photo of Mr. Chan and went down to see if any of the American pilots might have remembered him. To no avail but I was able to meet the old guard--Dick Rossi, Tex Hill, et al. These guys were getting old but they were all heroes to me.

For years I made P-40 models which have long since been flown into somewhere. I was in Kungming, China in 1994 waiting for a plane to Xishuanabanna which was three hours south on the northern Laos border. I was in the elevator of the Kungming Hotal and saw an American with a AVG cap on. He informed he that they were having the 50th ? reunion out at the old airfield hosted by the government. The committee received special dispensation for me and my Lao friend to attend; however our flight was out in the AM and the College of Xishuanabanna was awaiting us (there was only one flight every three - four days). So unfortunately I honored my prior obligation when all the time I wanted to be 12 years old again....watching all the hands flying around each other.

So like General Scott's tangled hands, my life too has been immershed in the lore that General Scott helped to create.

Dear Loyal Fan Club Members and Scotty Friends -

It is with deep sadness to report that Brig. General Robert L. Scott, Jr., our SCOTTY, passed away this morning, Monday, February 27, at 7:40 a.m.

Scotty had been in failing health for the last several months and had suffered a stroke just recently. His daughter Robin was with him when he passed.

On behalf of Guerry, Dave, Marilynn and Mike, we extend our thoughts and prayers to Scotty's family and to all of YOU fans -- you can rest assured that Scotty knew and spoke well of the Fan Club and all you wonderful people.

Although our hearts are heavy, we MUST consider how lucky have we been to have had him for all these years!! His influence on our lives will be passed down for future generations, and we will continue to celebrate all things that are SCOTTY. We know Scotty would not want us to do anything more than to go out and live our lives just as he did--giving it 110%. As he loved to quote baseball great Satchel Paige, "dont look behind you--someone may be gaining on you."

Arrangements: TO FOLLOW

For those of you wishing to send a card to Scotty's family please send to the Museum and they will pass along: Museum of Aviation, PO Box 2469, Warner Robins, GA 31099

Most Sincerely - Your Scotty Friend,

GEORGE L. FISHER

Default Flying Tigers,...

...

...I am proud to be a "Flying Tiger",...

...growing up, my father, being a model plane enthusiast, we had very many aircraft that I learned to fly at an early age, we had "Ringmasters", and Fight streaks" U-control as they called them, We belonged to a club called the "Flying Knights", and we had the largest model airplane meet east of Ohio in 1969 at what was called "the old Troy airport", competition ranged from balloon bust to combat, carrier, rat race, and RC, radio controlled, etc,...

...So seeing a P-40 with the teeth emblazoned on the front cowl always held my admiration as a youth, and upon enlistment, and assignment, I found myself to be a "Flying Tiger" with the 23rd TFW, TAC out of England AFB, A-7D's, all intake, and asshole, but those "teeth" held a legacy that bound all of us to Honor the past,...

... A-10's came later, and what an aircraft,

...

...Condolences to the family,...
