Multimedia Release: Fishing vessel Sandy M mayday call
JUNEAU, Alaska - The captain of the fishing vessel Sandy M calls the Coast Guard stating that his vessel was taking on water Dec. 18, 2010. A Sitka-based Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew rescued five people from the sinking 34-foot fishing vessel near Whitney Island north of Petersburg. JUNEAU, Alaska - The captain of the fishing vessel Sandy M notifies the Coast Guard that his vessel is taking on water and he and his crew are abandoning ship Dec. 18, 2010. Three people were able to make it to a life raft while two others remained in the water. The Coast Guard successfully rescued all five people, transferred them to local emergency medical service personnel in Sitka where they were released in good condition.
