Default Rigger,...

Even though truly funny, for all concerned I hope those critters have
to grow up a lot more before doing their extremely smelly thing?

Even though never had to, understand that getting rid of their foul
perfume from cloths & body is one-helluva-hard-thing to do,...
unless having a barrel of tomato juice handy.

But then, different people like different pets.

Somehow I don't think "Momma Cat" would have been amused.

I read that the best way to get rid of skunk odor is to use feminine douche! There's a message there but I'm not going to tell it to a woman!

Skunks are not so dangerous, just pesky. Primarily they are nocturnal and shy but not the best choice of critter to back in a corner or get in the defensive mode. Best way to settle an agitated skunk is to throw a thick tarp over them, gather up the ends of the tarp; no daylight is key, and then take the bundle some other place for release or whatever. If in the dark plus confined area, a skunk won’t spray. When I’ve done this, a quick shot of engine either in a tarp seam sets up the didi mau, get clear time. Setting up the get clear time is a really important step not to be skipped, eh. Oh, it is definitely not a good plan take good dog Geronimo along for the release journey, nope. They have a different understanding of “get clear” and usually don’t get clear, ay yi yi, what a yelping mess to deal with.

The same can’t be said for skunk’s critter relatives, the weasel or wolverine, etc. Those are mean-ass scrappers, not intimidated by much of anything, plus not a whole bunch shy about much either.

There is a Southern legend; true or not I don’t know. But the way to get a good weasel dog is to put a youngish pup in a barrel with a weasel. If the pup is taken out of the barrel but still wants back into barrel and continue the flail with the weasel, then that means a good weasel dog has been found. If the pup runs off yelping, then that just means that a porch pooch has been found.
The process is known as ‘Weaseling”, or so I was told by Turret 1 Gunner 2nd , “Cotton” A.D. Derryberry. Being that Cotton was from Columbia,S.C., I presume the information is an absolute as sure as gravity.

Smile Larry,...

...

...Don't matter what age you are, If your are old enough to know what one is, the room clears real fast,...

...Tomato juice is the cure for what fouls the air, and fur, esp. my dog, about a # 10 cans worth. He's been nailed twice in the last few years, first time was the aw shi+, damn he stinks, half drag him to the tub,...

...The second time was, I smelled it as soon as he took off to the back hill, and he walked up to the back door, and walked in and climbed right into the tub, they usually know after the second time to awoid the stripes on them black cats after that,...

It is probably more a matter of circumstance than actual age. The kits are weaned at about 8-12 weeks and then off to group-hunt worms and other available bug food items, plus the kits hang out with the Mum until about one year of age.

I just assume that a skunk that is alone can spray. An alone skunk is either separated from the sibling kit bunch or has become of mating age. Either way, no particular need to press luck or make any close moves, I’d say. Skunks have exceptionally poor vision, so a separation distance of 20-25 ft. is reasonable. An adult skunk can spray nearly that far, maybe further if a real big un, and can spray five or six times before their ‘magazine” goes empty, so more the reason to for the dogs to stay away lest they get the whole magazine. Dogs are just to curious to be woofing around with skunks. Never knew knew of a dog that got the message right away or on the first go-around. In dog think, what do ya suppose "Oh shit, not this again" comes out like.
