FY 09 National Defense Authorization Act pulled from the Senate floor
###START###
Sarasota Herald September 2008 Senate Republicans Delay 09 Defense Authorization Act- Once again Congress delays two bills that are crucial to active and reserve service members, veterans, military retirees and their families. Due to the usual partisan bickering in the Senate the measure was pulled the FY 09 National Defense Authorization Act from the floor. Ironically, the House of Representatives finished its version of this bill in May. The authorization bill is the key vehicle for nearly all military personnel changes, and the Senate is scheduled to consider amendments to prevent undue TRICARE increases, ease compensation penalties for disabled retirees and military widows, plus up military pay raises, and fix Reserve retirement inequities, among others. All issues discussed in earlier columns. But it's hung up in the Senate because some senators won't agree to limit amendments to defense-related issues. The single biggest issue is that some Republicans insist on being able to add amendments to expand oil-drilling. But Sen. John Warner (R-VA), the elder statesman and former chairman of the Armed Services Committee, isn't among them. Warner voted to move on with the defense bill and limit amendments to defense issues. But that effort gathered only 51 votes...9 short of the 60 needed to end the debate and move on. While we recognize that Congress has the responsibility to produce some meaningful energy legislation, we don’t believe that this important bill should be delayed because of silly partisanship. ###END### Why am I not surprised! Whine/Snivel
Let's see: we need both the National Defense Authorization Act and more offshore drilling. Why not vote on both of them at the same time? And just who is against most offshore drilling?

Whine/Snivel my country boy ass!
Don't hand me that south Texas horse crap.
It was not so long ago that YOU were screaming and hollering at the "Dems" for holding up funding for the troops and vets benefits because of THEIR "partisanship"! On SEVERAL occasions! I believe some of the words used to describe the democrats at that time were, "traitors", "unpatriotic", "treasonus", "betrayors", "despicable", etc, etc.----I think you remember, huh? You are undoubtably the most phoney, hypocritical, self-serving "whinner & sniveler" around these parts! It's OK to hold up funding for the troops as long as it fits into your partisan self interests, but NOT the other way around, huh? You folks nauseate me. Gimp

How can holding up troop funding fit into any interests, unless of course you're a low-life writing yourself a raise that needs to be in the budget, too? That's a rhetorical question. Quote:

There you go again

It's complicated my dear boy. Come back when you're all "growed up" and I'll s'plain it to ya. It's about some of that "history" you seem to be so reluctant to read about. You know, stuff that happened before you came of age. But, I'll give you a "hint".........Republicans evidently believe drilling for oil in the gulf of mexico is more important and would help their BIG OIL company buddies, rather than go ahead and let the funds in this bill already agreed upon be released to "support the troops". They're attempting to add an amendment to the legislation that has abso-phuckin-lutely NOTHING to do with the Defense Authorization Act. The authorization bill is the key vehicle for nearly all military personnel changes, and the Senate is scheduled to consider some amendments to prevent undue TRICARE increases, ease compensation penalties for disabled retirees and military widows, plus up military pay raises, (this should at LEAST give you a passing interest...you ARE "active duty", right?---) and fix Reserve retirement inequities, among other "military" and/or "veteran" related funding....BUT NOT a damn "oil drilling" amendment! Which has NO PLACE in this bill whatsoever. There, that better? And, BTW it ain't the "shitter" that nauseates me-----it the "SHIT-SQUAWKERS"..........Remember?? Yo old buddy, Mr. Gimp

I appreciate the input, but if you're that pissed about the bill contact your representatives and bitch to them. I am active duty. (Did anyone see the pictures of my re-enlistment?) I give a ...hit about retirees, but those we voted in don't look here to see what people want. And, apparently, you missed the part about me coming here to LEARN. Seeing as how this is a text forum, I do have to READ it in order to learn. I just usually skip over your babbling and bitching that is no help to anyone.

Well OK then

Hell, I know I'm a cantankerous, hell raising old curmudgeon. And I know I can be an asshole sometimes. No sweat GI......Don't mean nuthin. Damn, lookee here..........we're talkin without screamin, hollerin and name callin. Ain't life grand? I DO "contact" my Senators and Representatives. On a pretty regular basis. (This IS one of those "issues") I also write, call, e-mail and contact OTHER members of Senate and House Committees with regards to "issues" like the one we're discussing. Along with writing a regular quarterly column for my local chapters of the DAV and MOPH.....and countless numbers of "Letters to the Editor" of my local newspapers. Sometimes you have to "babble" and "bitch" to get peoples attention. I learned the hard way, dealing with the VA all these years-----that the "squeaky wheel" gets the grease! I'm also glad you're here to "learn"............if all I do is help one more active duty or veteran "learn" what needs to be done to help our brothers and sisters, I've done my "job". But, I will NOT stand by while I believe that MISinformation or outright baloney is being put out without at least a challenge to insure the accurate information is presented. I'm not saying YOU do that with any "intent" to unduely bolster your arguement...........but, there are some around here that WILL! Now, get back to work protecting our asses and our "mutual" interests. Gimp
