Pentagon splits $9 billion cloud contract among Google, Amazon, Oracle and Microsoft
Pentagon splits $9 billion cloud contract among Google, Amazon, Oracle and Microsoft
By: Defence Talk News - Agnece France-Presse - 12-10-22 Re: https://www.defencetalk.com/pentagon...crosoft-79649/ The Pentagon announced Wednesday it has awarded $9 billion in cloud computing contracts to Amazon, Google, Microsoft and Oracle, after scrapping a previous deal during a dispute between two of those firms. The Joint Warfighting Cloud Capability (JWCC) is a “multiple-award contract vehicle that will provide the DoD the opportunity to acquire commercial cloud capabilities and services directly from the commercial Cloud Service Providers,” the Pentagon said in a statement. Defense Department spokesperson Commander Jessica McNulty told AFP that JWCC is “composed of four contracts with a shared ceiling of $9 billion.” In July last year, the Pentagon said it had scrapped the $10 billion Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure (JEDI) cloud computing contract, sidestepping a bitter dispute between Amazon and Microsoft. The Defense Department said the contract was canceled because it no longer met current needs, and that it would start a process for a new “multi-cloud/multi-vendor” computing contract. Microsoft in late 2019 won the contract, sparking a challenge by Amazon on grounds that vengeful politics by then-president Donald Trump may have improperly influenced the outcome. Amazon alleged it was shut out of the deal because of what it called Trump’s vendetta against the company and its chief executive Jeff Bezos. It had been considered the lead contender to provide technology for JEDI, with Amazon Web Services dominating the cloud computing arena and the company already providing classified servers for other government agencies including the CIA. Officials said at the time that instead of going forward with the deal in the face of litigation, the government would start over with the aim of getting the most up-to-date technology. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Personal note: Where are they getting all this money from? Now I see that we are funding these programs - and yet - what about our infrastructure needs. - I see nothing posted on this subject. Winter is here - if we loose our power how long will be without electricity? Fix the People's business then what's left piss it away on your security issues. - Where are the People's business on a chart? I bet near the bottom because that's where we've been for some time. Everyone else benefits but the People. - Where is our security that we don't loose our power this winter? I see why all prices are going up for everything we need - but that's because we are secondary - if that - because you know better than us - supposedly. - Where does the People's problems fit on your scale of things to do? - In short all we have is our vote. Of which - can take you guys out if we get poor performance from our country that we pay into "dearly" each and everyday and moreso of late! -
