Interview with Theodore Acheson Interview Date: No Date Collection: Ted Acheson Collection (Department of the Army Special Photographic Office (DASPO)) Media Type: Oral History (Mini Disc) Length: Length currently unknown Description: (USA) Theodore T. Acheson, originally from Flint, Michigan served in the U.S. Army from 1967 until 1969. As a member of the Department of the Army Special Photographic Office (DASPO) based out of Hawaii, Ted first went to Southeast Asia in late 1967 TDY to Bangkok, Thailand where he documented on film the interaction between the American forces in country with the Thai military. He went TDY to South Vietnam for the first time in February 1968 to document combat in the war. On one of these asignments, he was wounded and evacuated. Ted went back to South Vietnam two more times to document various aspects of the American effort in the war. In addition to the time spent in the RVN, he also went to South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan (Okinawa and Yokahama) on assignment for DASPO. Ted was named Cinematographer of the Year for the Department of Defense in 1969 for his work documenting the construction and deconstruction of American firebases in South Vietnam.
