Gee,

For me - around 20. More if I could handle the weight.
Unfortunately, when we got word that we were going back to be picked
up, many
would throw about half their ammo away to reduce their load. In one
instance
that I am aware of, this had disasterous results.

Yeah, most do. If 20 magazines for an M-16 would be a load, how could an
admitted ammo dumper carry 20 magazines for an M-14?

You think he might have meant full auto stirring stick with all that
tracer round shit? He clearly can't seem to distinquish between an
M-16 and an M-14. He didn't seem to know what C-4 was used for

The magazines don't carry the same amount of ammo.. Qualified with both
weapons many, many moons ago, M-14 mag was 10 round I think, and M-16 was
more than that. Not 100% sure of all this as I tend to forget where I live
nowadays..

M14 and M16 each had 20 round magazines. Due to rumors of followers
sticking, many loaded no more than 18 rounds.
