looking for my hero
Maby someone out there can help me. I've been researching 448th bomb group 8th airforce, medical aidmen. My grandpa was enlisted 1-21-43 through 8-29-45. His name was Lonnie D. Hopper and his service serial number is 39/276/945. I've looked and looked but no record. He was awarded several medals for pulling 7 men out of a plane that had been shot down. He was going back when the plane exploded, so the rest of the men didn't survive. Any information about this or him would be greatly appreciated, I now have kids of my own and would like too pass on the family history, I just want to be sure I have the facts right. My grandpa has passed August of 2000, so I'm looking for my hero.
