The Imperial Plague?

IMPERIAL: "Designated as having sovereign powers.."

Many a disease has slithered forth from muck and mire, filth or ignorance, to nearly obliterate the spark of human life. Be that disease some pandemic plague, human stupidity, or war itself, humanity seems hell-bent on expunging the planet of all life forms, his own included!

Many of you will skip right on by this piece, as ignorance is bliss, and what you don?t know can not possibly hurt you - CAN IT!? As a matter of fact, had other (now extinct) life forms possessed the power of thought and reason, I suppose that they too, would have closed their eyes to their impending doom!

Oh, but such can not possibly be the case with mankind? He was created in the image of God, cares for his surroundings, seeks out cures for his ills, and strives to control his environment!

Well, I won?t insult you by giving a detailed list of potentially fatal maladies that have been developed, created or courted, by this splendid race of ours. A race that many erroneously compare to the Immortal Himself!

Have you taken the time to ponder over the plethora of new or mutated diseases that are springing up faster that warts upon a toad?s ass? How fortunate we have been in the past to conquer many (but not all) of those plagues that could have wiped us out in a heartbeat! ?But how long will this luck hold out?

We all succumb to one disease or another eventually, even if that sickness is as normal as old age itself! Recently, however, diseases like West Nile Virus, AIDS, SARS, and a myriad of other plagues of modern man, are proving that we ain?t as damned smart or immortal as we may have been led to believe! For in all too many cases, you see, mankind is his own worse enemy, and one of these days (maybe sooner than you think), a disease will come along that finishes the job once and for all!

And all that will remain then will be the fading echoes of arrogance, and the deafening silence of absolute oblivion!!
