Default California Layoffs

Well Friends,

California's economy is worsening day by day. I made it through 2 layoffs but wasn't so lucky this time around. I'm planning to take some time off to see what direction I want to go in my career. I was fortunate to receive a severance package and other bennies.

With my sideline business, I'll be okay. That's of course if we do not go into a depression. Then I'd really be up sh*t creek without a paddle.

Philly

DONT and I say DONT go into retirement if at all possible.

I am only 56 and am retired, and have had nothing but trouble with my Heart and depression since.

I was born to work and love it.

I still like to screw around doing something, but full retirement is out of the question for me.

I have used up to much time and money since that I feel drpressed almopst all the time and that leads to the Heart.

Find something productive to do and the best be with you.

I dont see how these old old farts are getting by just sitting back and watching the tube all day long.

enough.......

Sorry for the bad news Philly. Hopefully a brand new exciting opportunity will show up. "They" say that everything happens for a reason. That's all the cliches I have. Good Luck to you.

Philly, retirement is not so bad if you work at it. But I do hope you are able to bounce back and find meaningful employment. Good luck.

Philly / Reeb,
I've been retired for right at a year now and believe me, I don't spend all my time watching the boob-tube. I got through the "honey-do's" and even the odd jobs around the church and friends, but I too need something meaningful to occupy my time.
I'm only 54 (well, 54 1/2 ;-)) and I've been looking for a "real" job for the past several months. No luck as yet, but still looking. I've just about decided to go to truck driving school and use that as a means of seeing the country. Something about the adventure of the open road....

Thanks Friends.

I'm not ready for retirement just yet. I'll be putting my son through college very soon. I think I'm going to take a long vacation. I have a best bud in Arizona I may visit for a week. I've been wanting to take a trip to San Diego too. This may be the most favorable time for me to travel.

Reeb,

I'm sorry retirement isn't quite what you expected. My pop is in your shoes. He keeps himself busy around the house and assists with my youngest son's sports, but he doesn't have any friends his age to visit with. All of his friends moved away many years ago when Ford Motor Company shut down in San Jose. I wish you so much happiness.

SGT Tropo,

Good luck with finding a job. I'm not sure if you've looked at obtaining city employment. I took a 6 week class at the local police station and met some retirees. They are working for the city part-time. Just a thought..

Thanks Nang. You're always here for us.

Thanks ArtySGT for your encouragement.
