Default Is it just me or...

has there ever been a concerted effort by anybody at any level of society, to remove > "In God We Trust" < from our paper and coin money ? This is handled and physically touched by multi-billions of people, world-wide, every day...and doesn't seem to bother anybody...does it have something to with "The love of money is the root of ALL evil", quote from the Bible ? What is your view ?

Larry

Default There was an effort...

...some time back down the road by the late Madeline Murray O'Hare to ban IN GOD WE TRUST as our national motto.
I'm not positive, but I believe her petition/campaign specifically mentioned the removal of the motto on our nation's coins and currency.

Ms. O'Hare was, I believe, the person who began the successful effort to get prayer banned in schools.

Here's an on-topic trivia question for everyone:

What was the first regular issue U.S. coin to bear the motto IN GOD WE TRUST and what was the year?

That is the one. She was murdered by a member of her family several years ago.

Cool Money

I think the Bible must have been mis-translated. It's the Lack of money that's the root of all evil, cite G.B. Shaw.

Wasn't Ms. O'Hare killed in Texas and left out in the middle of no were? Good for her. There is usually someone in league with the ACLU about every other year who files a suit that "In God We Trust" needs to go. Yes there is at least one of those pending now. Saw the lawyer on O'Rieley maybe 8 months ago. The High Court and the Congress start each session with a prayer, so I'm not sure that complain has legs.

Rigger, the old mind isn't working well this morning. I'd bet it was either Lincoln or FDR who started the "In God we trust" but not sure which. Probably on a low denomination.

Between checks, credit and debit cards, money will probably be a thing of the past by the time of our grandchild's lives. It will no doubt become a none issue, similar to abortion. With the pill and the morning after pill and soon to come the month after pill. Anyone remember White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane? We are definitely headed in that direction - fast.

Stay healthy,
Andy

Default Andy, you're a good detective!

You're definitely ON TRACK with your bet on the first IN GOD WE TRUST coin, and who did it, and when.

But in case some others would like to try their luck, I'll give it a few more days before I post the answer.

Folks, use Andy's hunches as accurate hints!
