Wink Hunting or humping ?

Clicked on Vietnam to get here so just let me say the terrain was a lot like the terrain around Khe Shan - steep. No level area anywhere Up at 3: 30am so we could be in the woods at first light - up , up, up .Black powder weapons are heavy, up, up, up.Some one told the pigs we were coming, never saw one. Forgot my glasses ( did I say we got up at 3:30 - lucky I remembered my ass) up, up ,up. I can hardly walk today , sore in places I didn't even know could get sore. Rained , no poured for awhile - no poncho. up, up up.I am beginning to wonder about my friends - this was not hunting this was humping the boonies !! I am to old for this stuff - at least the pigs didn't blow an ambush on us. Smiling through the pain

Default 3:30...

...are you sick, no self respecting pig would be up at that hour...

...thought is was better to hunt pig in the early to late afternoon in weather like this while their rumaging for truffles???

...saw one segment on ESPN the other day, and they were hunting, (BOW), down Fred's way in Tenn, they harvested a Huge one, and I mean huge, don't think I have ever seen a larger one on film, or live, (hope not to anyway, unless I'm looking for him first)...
...How could you forget your glasses?, did you finish them first?,...

...heading out today as big game tags go on sale, and the issue doe pemits at the same time via a lottery system...we'll see...

...I'm ready, but most hunts up here happen in the early afternoon as their still scratching at 11:00am...3:30, are you sick...

Wink

Hey Curtis. Didn't have my glasses all day, could't get a good sight picture on the rifle at all - thought about taping my knife to the barrel and charging the pigs after a volley. In GA this year you can take 12 deer

Talking Pig Hunting!

LT and Seatjerker,

You have to hunt "Pork Chop Hill" for pig don't you?

Sorry, I couldn't help it.

We don't have any pig hunting out west. Must be interesting.

Default Hogs

Around the turn of the century some sposrtsmen turned some Russian wild boars loose in the mountains around here. They spread throughout the mountains of East Tennessee, including the Smokies. They interbred with domesticated pigs (people around here used to let their hogs loose in the mountains then round them up in the fall). What you ended up with was a larger hog with all the attitude of the wild boar. They've got all of them out of the mountains around here and took them to southern east Tennessee. I am sure some of them have trotted on down the ridgeline to the Georgia mountains. The favorite way to hunt them in southern east Tennessee is with dogs and then when they are cornered, the hunter goes in and cuts their throats with a knife. Oh yeah, some of the hunters are women. I hear they have very faithful husbands.

Default Pigs

Pigs are a lot like people, when it comes to hunting them, Some are very smart and some arn't so smart. A smart leader of a heard of pigs will get them through the day, A not so smart leader will make them lunch for someone.
We got a lot of pig hear, we only BBQ the small ones. Use domestic pig for deer sausages. Those are easy to hunt.
12 deer in GA this year? Sounds like you may need a few more hunters.

Default We had a good time

I got up at 3:30 and yelled at everyone to get going. Ron and I were ready to go, LT was trying to find his shoes. I went up the steep climb and Ron and LT took the old timers slope, Ron made a wrong turn in the dark and missed the RP. Had to go to the top and then come back down. I tried to get LT to go out with me that afternoon but he decided to defend the campsite. Ron and I had tied a bottle of Southern Comfort in the top of a Maple sapling and a bear had bent over the tree and tried to open the bottle. He drank one once before. The pigs were there we just didn't shoot any. It was a good day!!

Wink It was a good day.........................

..................... if you were a pig !! Really , it was a good day in the mountains with two good friends.Where else could I go wandering around a steep mountain , 1/2 blind, in the rain trying to shoot a pig ( and praying we didn't cause we would have had to hump him out of there) That beer sure tasted good when we stumbled off the mountain - did I mention I am so sore today I can hardly walk ?
