Wind, Water & Greed!
Some years back, after my wife was pinned (on foot) between two cars by an uninsured, elderly driver, I learned the hard way that I (personally) could no longer trust the insurance industry! I had complete coverage, including uninsured motorist and our medical bills were extensive but the insurance carrier that we had for about 15 years (accident free) opted to fight our claim!
Just a short while back, as I have related previously, my son was hit head on by a gal who could not speak (she claimed) 10 words of English! It was amazing how, later at the hospital, the gal spoke better English than a college professor. ?Naturally, she was an alien and had no insurance!?
Well to cut a long story down to size, I just saw a story on the tube in which many residents of the New Orleans area are running into a similar scenario. It seems that elements of the insurance racket (opinion) are refusing to cover many of those who were nearly wiped out by Hurricane Katrina. It seems that these victims, although insured (even for hurricanes) had a ?Catch 22? thrown at them. The insurance companies in question, are claiming that their hurricane insurance only covers wind damage and not the flood that was part of the storm? ?Hmmm, hurricanes without a tidal surge - amazing!!
The only question now is - will they (the victims) prevail in their law suits against these insurance gangsters (another opinion), or will the government again step in, like the insurance industry, and claim that hurricane insurance does not cover water damage as well?
It is further my opinion that: ?had the wind and not the water caused the majority of the damage, these voracious insurance giants would have claimed that the victims were only covered by water damage and not the hurricane force winds!?
If in reality, these insurance companies are allowed to slither out of their high-cost policies, policies that have been paid upon for countless years in many cases, what will be next: ?Roof cave-in insurance, broken window insurance, landscape damage insurance, toilet bowl damage insurance, and maybe even coverage for only an Category 1, Category 2, and so on and so forth, intensity storm, and each of these must be specified and paid for by additional insurance premiums?
Yes indeed, it takes a natural disaster to bring out the best and worse in humanity. And to add insult to misery, a local school that had collected money to aid the hurricane victims was buster into and the funds stolen!
?Have we really progressed that far from the cave!!?
