Most rational people recognize that it is a minority of priests that cause the problem. Also most rational people know that such a large monolithic structure as the church will be ever slow to change. My wife is a devout Catholic. She is thoroughly disgusted with what is happening in the Catholic church today.
She wants to see at a minimum women priests and a married priesthood. That in itself should go a long way to solving some of the problems. HOWEVER, since Rome is slow to act, my wife simply will not contribute to anything offeratory in the church other than the contributions required to run her parish. She gives nothing to any other fund assuming that it will go to settle all these law suits.
If enough people did that, maybe Rome would listen, because there is a lot of money here in America that supports the Catholic church. What would happen if it dried up because people voted with their wallets?
