Default Man Cub has moved.

I was down at Ft. Bragg last week to see the Man Cub off. He cleared Post on Wednesday and drove off with his family to Ft. Campbell, KY where he is to be the new 5th SFG (Abn) Chaplain. His time with the 325 has come to a close. On Thursday I got to meet the SECDEF Donald Rumsfield when he was the reviewing officer for the 82d Div. Pass in Review. He gave a really good, and inspiring speech in under 10 minutes, unlike the previous SECDEF, Togo West, who rattled on for around an hour and caused many of the 82d Troopers to pass out on the parade field from exhaustion. Rumsfield's voice cracked a few times when he was talking about the boys who won't be coming home. I got the feeling that he really cares. When the "Old Timers" passed in review, I got something in my eye, and when I turned around to see if anybody saw me wipe my eyes I noticed that everybody else, including the Secretary of Defense had "Something in their eye". Went to the "Over the Hill Gang" Breakfast at the Green Beret Club and ran into a couple of guys that I haven't seen in 40 years.

I've got to say that I'm really impressed with today's Army. These kids are light years ahead of what we were 40 years ago. The 82 Division is a group of "Professionals" and nothing like the 82d Division of 1966. Watching them on parade was inspiring. I really felt proud that they were part of "My Army". The young "Operators" of Special Forces in turn, are so much better at what they do than we were 40 years ago. The "all volunteer Army" is a working proposition. We definitely don't want to re-institute the draft, because if we do we will un-do all the work that these fine men and women have done in the last several decades since the draft was abolished. Our Army, I am happy to report, is better than it has ever been!

When you see one of these kids, thank him or her for the job they have done!
