Attempting To Change Our History

“History (Real History) just can not be changed!” No more so, in fact, than any other accepted truth can be altered in order to satiate the demands of some revisionist who just did not like (or did not accept) the way that things actually happened, a person’s loyalties or even an individual’s beliefs! In fact, it is almost (in my opinion) like attempting to say that ‘Nero’ was not ambitious?

“In Other Words, Just Saying That Something Is So, Does Not Necessarily Make It So – And This Is Just The Way That It Is!”

A current case in point is the attempt of some, even within “Our Own Government”, to expunge the honorable name of ‘General Robert E. Lee’ from American History and this by removing his portrait and renaming many of the historical sites that currently bear his name!

So maybe ‘Lee’ did fight upon the “Confederate Side” of ‘The American Civil War’, but he did come from a very patriotic and heroic family that included ‘Light Horse Harry Lee’ of ‘The American Revolution!’ And had ‘The South’ won that war, then in my opinion again, the push would be on, not to rename the sites that bear his name, but rather, to add to the list of those that currently exist?

And above all, let us face the fact that ‘Robert E. Lee’ was a brilliant general and ‘An American Icon’ who was torn between his regional loyalties, his beliefs and of course, his Southern Heritage! And once again, had ‘The South’ won that conflict, instead of trying to eliminate him (and others) from the annals of American History, he just might be lorded as a hero and referred to in the same breath as men like Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and even Patton – just think about that for a moment?

And anyway that you cut it (and admire ‘Robert Edward Lee’ or not), when a nation (any nation) begins to rewrite or even to recreate its own history, then they are treading upon a very slippery slope! And who is to truthfully say that some other historically-significant figures, in times that are yet to come, might not also be erased as fact - and this just because someone did not like their politics or even the way that they parted their hair!

In closing, let me once again avow that history and fact, can not and must not, be trifled with! For to do so, could eventually turn the entire record of our illustrious existence (including the renaming of several current military bases), into more of a fairy-tale than actual fact!!

Remember, that you can not “Make America Great Again” by lying about its past or by attempting to alter “Our Truthful History!”
