loya jirga going well in Afghanistan.
The Grand Council (loya jirga) is well on the way to selecting a new government to lead Afghanistan.
Following two days of screaming and ranting at each other a dispute broke out Monday night. Prince Abdul Mohammad, warlord of the Northern tribes left in a huff and returned with Ali Baba and the forty thieves. Hundreds were killed in the resulting battle that lasted all night. Camel intestines, swords and bodies were strewn everywhere. "We haven't had so much fun since the Russian invasion," said newly elected President, Hamad Kazar. It is great to see our people enjoying the company of each other again. (ducking as a rocket fired from the outskirts of Kabul exploded nearby killing 2 camels, 6 sheep and someones grandmother.) We fully expect to have the new government in place very soon, with a minimum of bloodshed. We are really enjoying the democracy the U.S. has made possible for us. (Ducking a dagger that thudded into the post behind his head.) Suddenly there was a loud shriek from the darkness. Looking at the reporter Kazar said, "Oh that is just our potential new Defense Minister being interviewed for the job." Now, let us extend the customary Afghanistan sociability to you and join us in a meal. We have prepared several delicacies for you. Sheep eye soup, chilled monkey brains and camel testicle stew. Eat hearty friend! |

seriously Afgahnistan is one of the old Mongol territorys..and many of the custom/traditions are of Mongol origin..ie the Kuriltai..or Loya jirgua
Most of these actually go off peacefully. Amazing aint it. What isnt peaceful is the behind the scenes things that have gone on. (Course I am a anthropology/history person so I am going by the past here) AND ...gotta tell you...you are waaaay off on the food..how about some fermented mares milk..kuumis and some lamb (mutton) stew and flat breads? Its um...an acquired taste.

You are correct on the history of the Mongols of course.
The amazing thing is all these incidents were from news sources which I compiled into a short article. I did decide to use the name Ali Babba for "added effect." It is not surprising that there is a lot of turmoil in Afghanistan following the recent events. Truth is stranger than fiction. |
