Default Not Aggressive Enough

Not Aggressive Enough
Supporters of Howard Dean, the angry physician who rolls up his sleeves like Robert Kennedy, no doubt take comfort in recent polls suggesting a slippage of support for the Bush administration's policies in Iraq. Dean, after all, has hewed to the view that we'd be better off if Saddam Hussein were still in power. But a new Fox News/Opinion Dynamics poll gives reason to doubt whether Dean can capitalize on whatever shortcomings the Bush policy may have.

The poll asked, "Do you think the military's response to the continuing violence against U.S.-led forces in Iraq has been too aggressive, not aggressive enough, or about right?" Here are the responses, from the most recent poll (conducted Nov. 18 and 19) and an earlier one (June 30 and July 1):

Too aggressive Not enough About right Not sure
Now 11% 44% 33% 10%
Then 9% 33% 47% 11%

The big shift is that more people think America isn't aggressive enough; barely 1 in 10 of those polled favor a more dovish approach. Although Dean has been known to yell until he's red in the face, somehow we have a feeling this isn't the kind of aggression the American people have in mind.

DJ -

As I said numerous times in the past, the Middle East is such that whether or not is was Saddam, Osama, Saddam's kids, or any one of the numerous other malcontents that flocked to Hussein's feet, there will always emerge in that region, some despotic lout to test the waters of discontent!

Just as democracy is our way of life (most of the time), in the badlands of the Persian Gulf, war, despotism, and terror (to one extent or another) will always be slithering around, just below the surface on the dunes! (opinion)

My point is that many people believe as we do.

If we must fight radical Islam, and we don't seem to have a choice in that, let's fight on their territory to keep our homes and families safe.

We can also assist these countries by teaching them how to deal with minority groups by being more inclusive instead of more tyranical.

The suicide bombers are going to Iraq and Afganistan to fight us instead of coming here.
