John Imrie
This is the one I always remember.
I saw him run out into a clearing and try and give a WIA first aid. He was shot in the head, about 15' away, while I was watching, It took him all day to die. This was the the bravest thing I ever saw, the greatest act of self sacrifice I ever saw in my life. (the WIA survived) Wherever you are, John I hope its good. I salute you, you made me proud to be a paratrooper And all the others who didn't make it back God Bless James

A couple of more Fallen Eagles
SFC. D J Kelsey was a good man and soldier who really shouldn't have been assigned to a line company. Not because he was older than most of us, he could hump the boonies with the best of em?, but because he was career Army who had seen combat in Korea and we figured he already spent his time in hell. He was ?the old guy?, we called him that with the utmost respect, and he was always smiling no matter where we were or what we were doing and the last time I saw him alive, that's what he was doing - smiling and joking with his point man. We were on a trail approaching a hill and SFC. Kelsey's platoon received automatic weapons fire and he was KIA along with Bob Johnson and Conaway. We took the hill and the 101st decided to build a Firebase on it and we tried to get it named Kelsey but Battalion named it something else but it will always be FSB Kelsey to the men of Delta Company 1/506th.
Claudie Fowler gave his life trying to save another. The M-60 gunner and his assistant gunner of my platoon had started up Hill 996 and took fire from small arms and RPG?s. The gunner was hit and hit multiple times and the assistant gunner was knocked unconscious. The rest of my platoon was cut off from them and the rest of our company and got pinned down on a narrow ledge on the side of the hill. Claudie just took off up the hill through a hail of SA, MG and RPG fire and brought the gunner down to where our medic was. Claudie took off up the hill again to get the assistant gunner and we couldn?t give him much covering fire like we had his first trip up because the NVA had flanked us and we were in a fight for our lives. Claudie was hit and he just dropped in his tracks. The assistant gunner, who was also wounded, regained consciousness and was able to drag Claudie down to the medic but he was already dead. The gunner, although he was shot up pretty bad, lived. There are many more who I posted a remembrance to on the Veterans Memorial thread but didn?t want to put them here for fear of being redundant.
