Sen. Bingaman Stops Efforts to Build Ed. Center at The Wall
Text of an e-mail that I just received.
VVMF President Jan Scruggs wrote:
Efforts have been ongoing for two years to place an Education Center at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial for America's youth.
These efforts have been stopped for the second time by Senator Jeff Bingman. He stopped the bill in December 2001 claiming that this was a "major construction project".? Bingaman now plans to stop the legislation from passing the Senate- requiring its introduction for the 3rd time.
Senator Bingaman put language in S.281 stopping all future Memorials on the Mall.? If he removes the language, S.281 can pass.? However, he refuses to compromise and he refuses to meet and discuss the matter - even with the American Gold Star Mothers.
?Please call Virginia White or Bernard Toon on 202.224.5521.?? Ask that Senator Bingaman meet with the Gold Star Mothers and other veterans groups to explain his committment to stopping America's youth from learning patriotism at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
