He completed Basic Training at Camp Wolters TX and Officer Candidate School at Ft Benning GA. He served as an infantry officer in Korea 1946-47 and entered the US Military Academy at West Point in 1947, graduating in 1951. He was assigned to the 112th Regiment in Germany, and resigned from the Regular Army in 1954 to accept a permanent commission in the Army Reserve. He graduated from the Command and General Staff College, Ft Leavenworth KS, and in 1970 from the Law School at the University of Texas at Austin. He became an attorney with the oil industry in Texas while also serving brief active duty tours at the Pentagon, including with the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff-Logistics (1964-68) and the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff-Operations (1971-79). |

Greunke, originally from Fremont, Nebraska served in the U.S. Army from 1965 until 1969. He went to South Vietnam in August 1966 as a member of the Army Security Agency and was stationed at Pleiku with the 330th Radio Research Company (RRC). Vern spent most of his tour near Cu Chi TDY with the 372nd RRC, 303rd Radio Research Battalion. Stationed at MACV advisory posts surrounding the Iron Triangle, he was a Radio Direction Finding Specialist, tracking and locating the enemy with short range radio receivers and directional antennae until he left Vietnam in August 1967. Grigsby, originally from Gainesville, Florida served in the U.S. Army from 1967 until 1970. Bryan served with the Department of the Army Special Photographic Office (DASPO) and was based out of Ft. Schafter, Hawaii. As a DASPO Still Photographer and Sound Specialist, he went TDY to Asia on five occasions: once to Thailand (1968), twice to South Korea (1967 and 1968), and twice to South Vietnam (February-May 1968 and June-August 1969). In May 1968, in South Vietnam, Bryan was awarded the Silver Star for his actions while shooting combat during post-Tet Offensive action. Interview conducted by Richard B. Verrone, Ph.D. |
