The ancient Egyptians had a flower called the blue lotus. It was used as a pain medicine and had addictive properties. It is extinct now.

Nymphaea nouchali var caerulea: Blue Lotus; Blue Water Lily, Egyptian Lotus; Sacred Narcotic Lily of the Nile is still available. The dried flowers of certain species of Nymphaea and Nelumbo are sometimes smoked, made into a tea, or macerated in alcohol for a mild sedative effect.
