Thumbs up MELODY

Very proud of you , girl. I have a sword my great great grandfather brought home from the Civil War. Have thought about giving it to a museum but I like the thought of how many people in my family have held it. When I hold it I feel conected to them. My youngest daughter has claimed it and will be passing it on to my grandson. Tell your grandpa the situation and ask your grandpa if you can have the jacket , he will probably be honored you asked. Thank him for his service from me !

Keith I'm shocked! Good one, but...dude isn't that deceitful?

One other thing you might think of if you don't want to donate the items. If you donate them you give up all rights to them. You might think of putting them on Loan to a museum. This way they are not available for the 5 finger help myself discount for your cousin and like marine said...everyone can gain from viewing them.
The first thing I would do would be to remove the items you want to hold onto, from the house. If they are not there, then they cannot be counted as estate property...unless they are specifically named in the will.

Right now I have a few things of his that I am keeping. There is this huge wood box full of old leather working tools. Another is a deck of pinachle(sp?) cards. They are my fav because you can tell he got good use of them over there....they are nice and worn. For me personally all i want is to make sure it won't be sold. His jacket and medals are things that are not the most important thing to me because they are not the most important to him. I would love to have some of his tools from the 40's and 50's and things like that. Stuff that was used and he kept and cared for.

WOW I can sure bable....I can tell you that I will fight to keep it out of his hands, for now they are somewhere he won't find em!!!!

Keith, I am sure he wouldn't know the difference...LT, thank you!! Thanks everyone for your inpute!

Don't do it - keep it as long as you live - in fact tell them you don't have it anymore. Scavenger's! Family or not if it means something to you - then keep it.

I have old things from some family member's that have no value to anyone but me. I keep them to remember those who've been long gone. It's part of my past and my kids future. They will get all this stuff and what they do with it - well I can't say but at least they will know it was important to their Dad to keep it so maybe they will to. This is how these little treasures begin to take place.
