Great book about the subject.

"State of Fear", by Michael Crichton

( also author of "Jurassic Park", "Andromeda Strain, "Congo", etc. )

his web site >>>
http://www.crichton-official.com/

http://www.tcsdaily.com/article.aspx?id=011905B

..... "Among Crichton's many logical conclusions three stand out:

"We know astonishingly little about every aspect of the environment, from its past history, to its present state, to how to conserve and protect it. In every debate, all sides overstate the extent of existing knowledge and its degree of certainty.

Nobody knows how much warming will occur in the next century. The computer models vary by 400 percent, de facto proof that nobody knows; and

Before making expensive policy decisions on the basis of climate models, I think it is reasonable to require that those models predict future temperatures accurately for a period of ten years. Twenty would be better."......

I think it quite unfortunate that what should be a globally challenged issue has been reduced to cheep, deceptive political propaganda by Hollywood and some of our ambitious politicos looking for a cause and audience.
Not good. I figure people are a heck of a lot smarter than Hollywood or our politicos give them credit for and once it?s figured out that a scam in being played, the core issue becomes both diminished and dismissed as irrelevant, and that is a big step in the wrong direction.

What the scare mongers won?t say is that over the last 25 years the US and Western Europe, almost exclusively, have made tremendous strides in development, application and deployment of emissions control technology and water treatment technology. Long way to go, but the work is very good so far.

The ?for the people? left world has done nada and will continue to do nada except whine and empower their spokespersons in the US to be obstructive, disingenuous and deceptive. Too bad, but that?s the way things play out and the way things are.

Good post Larry and some rational thought being put forth.

Green land was named by the Vickings, so was Ice land, They setteled in Ice land because it was hapitable, They Called Greenland, GreenLand because the didn't want people to come to Iceland. . When Greenland and Antartica had trees, those places had no names, or people.

I know this, In a million years we will be gone and earth will still be hear, It will be earth/plastic Then instead of just earth.
We can't change earth, we make little attempts , Damm's and cement alot of it of but the earth don't live in hundred or thousands of years it lives in Millions and Billions of years, What we do only effects us, not earth.

What really gets my goat is that anything that happens is blamed on "global warming". Some are really outlandish. Just scan the headlines. Always good for a few laughs.

Yep we got some of that global warming of late here. High 90's and havey humidity. Heat index's over 100+ for the next 5 to 7 days - won't be pretty - and those with that type of hair will have those frizzies to deal with and my wife is one of them. I hate Hot Weather!!!!!!

Chicaaaago Heights? You rich bastard.
All you got to do is go for a ride along lakeshore drive. If that aint good enough, take a couple steps in that cold lake. Watch out for the Pike though.
I used to live in IlL. about a hundred miles west of you , Sterling.
Ron

Yea I know. When I worked Saudi in 75 I remember one day it got up to about 130 Deg. F and over 50K chickens died in town. I lost 32 lbs. there. I was chalked over from salt coming out of my body. Would lay in my rack and wake up covered in swet.

Chicago Heights is about 3 miles from the border of Dyer, IN so I'm about 28 miles south of the city proper. I'm about 27 miles from the lake. The Lake is great if the wind is blowing in on you.
The city is great but the traffic is horrible. I ride my bike South of my house into the corn field areas - less traffic and more bikers of late do to the higher gas cost.

And this is not a rich area and very depressed since many of the major companies left and went to other areas where they got large tax breaks or where there were no unions.

Texas is nice my brother lives around or on the outskirts of Dallas. I did some work all over that state and spend many days in Sequin about 30 miles south of San Antonio. I've been to Houston (don't like it at all), Tyler and Monticello. Had some good times at Asarco in Amarillo and got my first taste of local snake. Taste like chicken my ass. I had to drink many beers to eat the remaining wild game on that platter. Had some great steaks in Dallas. I've been to El Paso and Laredo when I had to go into Mexico. I've pretty much covered those areas.

I also like New Mexico. I've been around this great world of ours at least 2.5x already and almost every state in the Union and Canada. Several S.A. areas as well. Won't go to Columbia a guy down there would like to remove me from this earth. We didn't get along I know that.

Washington state I also know pretty well. Used to cliff climb around deception pass in my younger days. Went to several micro brewers in Portland.

Spent several months in Savannah and areas surrounding it. Chased a gator out of the plant with a 2 x 4 once. Had snakes sleeping on the I-beams. Been in the mnes in KY, WV and VA.

So I've been seen a pretty good close up of most power plants and mill sites. I have never been in the heart of any major cities usually about 20+ miles out of town (min.).

I've had many local beers and in fact Lone Star ain't to bad if you drink 1/2 case then they mellow out. Used to have a good friend in Dallas and we'd drive his Cadillac (with large cattle horns on it ) to most of the power plants and drink beers on the highway.

He's gone now I miss him. Bob Phillips one hell of a Texican. Big eater - big guy.

Gotta Run (boss is looking over my shoulder)

only someone from The heights would know I was kidding, Take 94 north to oaklawn turn right to the lake, stop at the water. unless its january. I don't like Houston either, and its right next door, only good thing about is , whatever you want, any time of the day or night , you can find it in Houston. Dallas has way to short of on ramps to there freeway system. (theres a reason they call it an exceleration Ramp) Id call it a point and pray ramp.
Asarco in Amarillo , took the kid there last winter on the way to Red river NM. Yea there "sea food plater" is not for everyone. I like rattel snake, Tastes like snake.
If you went to El Paso you must have stoped at carlsbad caverns.
