Thank you for the kind words, Ann. I've made several lifetime friendships on here. One of the best things to happen in my life was to stumble upon this group of people 6/7yrs. ago over on the old History Channel forum. Has been life-changing for me.

We are even more proud of you and others who take the time and trouble to remember when you have a choice.

In truth, we deserve little credit in this matter because we could no more forget our fallen brothers than we could "forget" to breathe. We lived-ate, drank, showered(rarely,if it didn't rain), shit, slept, got laid, got drunk, agonized over letters from home and over what the next minutes, hours, and days might have in store for us-bled, and often died together. Because only by sticking together was there any hope of enduring the unendurable. We loved/hated(except maybe more so) each other in the same ways and for exactly the same reasons more normal families do. With one noteable/horrible exception; when one or more of us went down, we wrapped them in their ponchoes, left them laying in the mud and blood, looked each other in the eye and said: "..don't mean nothin" and kept on doing what we had to do. If we had let it mean something we would not have been able to function well enough to keep each other alive, and we might all have died. The pain and loss would have to wait for later...if we were lucky enough to have a "later".

Well, for those of us who post on this forum, it is now "later". We can't forget nor would we wish to. Part of us died with them. Part of them lives with us. That's just the way it is. "Greater love hath no man..."

The man who walks point has a greater burden than those who come behind. But he gets to the destination first, can set down his ruck, and can rest while the others catch up. When we also reach the end of the trail, we'll rag their butts about missing all those years of taxes, idjits from the gov'ment, divorces,...
