It was my understanding that the guy Marshall Dillion drew against every show at the begininng was the worlds fastest gun. Actually if you listen, he beats Arness to the draw but obviously misses. Can anyone confirm that?

That's an interesting question, Pack!
Once in a while somebody posts some episodes of Gunsmoke in the newsgroups. I'll see if I can download one and we'll find out! |

Packo, you were ALMOST right!
For twenty years, fans of the Western TV series "Gunsmoke" watched the opening credits in which James Arness as Matt Dillon faced down a gunslinger. Each week, Dillon killed the bad guy. What many people didn?t know was the name of the gunslinger in the famous credit sequence, now you do: Arvo Ojala. The sequence was actually filmed four different times during the series's two decade run, but Mr. Ojala was the duelist in the first version. Arvo Ojala was one of the top gun coaches in Hollywood history. He was a master of the quick draw, and not just in the movies. Mr. Ojala was a marksman with few peers. While not the fastest modern gunslinger, he could draw and fire a Colt Single Action Army revolver in one-sixth of one second. Mr. Arvo worked both in front and behind the cameras. He acted in such films and TV shows as "Lancer," "Two-Gun Lady" and "The Oregon Trail." He was technical advisor and gun coach on such films and TV shows as "Silverado," "The War Wagon," "Back to the Future III," "Sugarfoot," "Maverick," the rock and roll Western "Zachariah" and "Three Amigos." |

Thanks Steve!
Don't forget to listen next time you watch. You'll hear Ojala fire first. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'll be trying to catch it on cable to see also. We used to have a "Have Gun Will Travel" board game when we were kids. I used to watch Sky King also. Always liked the older plane better than the new one and would give anything to have one of those old station wagons they drove. Rear area had wood floors. Pack

Packo's right!
Just downloaded and watched a 30-minute black & white episode of GUNSMOKE from 1958 called "The Jayhawkers" with Jack Elam. Ojala CLEARLY gets the first shot off...by about a half second. |
