Whiskey A GO GO
It closes at 3 in the morning and they had to ask us to leave.
We went for a ride, I asked he to show us around, We went from a 8 lane road to a 4 lane to a 2 land to a dirt road to NO road in a matter of about 3-4 miles heading west out of Sidney. So there we are ,No road, Roos are running, and we are in a Mustang?
We went and met this Aborigines family, There was a didgeridoo standing in the corner of the room. The guy looked like he would be at home with woolly mammoths in the back yard.
Went back to the Hotel to get some rest for the nights adventure. Called Ma. Ate, slept.

Good stories, Ron. Keep 'em going.

Your picture of the didgeridoos didn't show the size of them. A couple of years ago I was walking around in Golden Gate Park and heard this haunting music. I tracked it down to the entrance to one of the pedestrian tunnels that goes under one of the roadways. It made for some really cool acquistics [sp]. A very interesting instrument.

Feb 1 1968
Headed back to Viet Nam. Me and Golden Dragon had a good time, Spent all our money, Got lucky several times, seen a caveman, road in a mustang that was just wrong,Took a boat ride, Met some real nice people and saved the memories forever.
That plane just don't look good from this angle. (heading at it).

When approaching Cam Rhan Bay at night , I could see Flashes off in the distance, I was getting sick.

We deplane and a SSgt says what unit you going to , I told him and he said they didn't have anything going to that location because of the fighting, He said he would get me to Phu Bai and I could get something out of there.

Me and 1/14 said seee Ya and exchanged address's , I can't remember his name now though, I found out later (couple weeks) that he stepped on a mine and was messed up pretty bad, Thats the last I heard anything about him.

I got to Phu Bai and we made a straight Down (seemed like) landing. They were taking mortars and when I got off there were guys running in all directions , Small arms fire in the distance.
(F--K, I'm Back)
It was almost daylight now and The guy with the clipboard asked where I was going and I told him, He looked up and raised an eyebrow, He say He had a chopper that was taking some water to some Marines that I could hitch a ride. OK, I says.

About an Hour later we took off, me sitting on 10 or so 5 gal cans of water. We landed on this small clearing where a run way was and the mortars started to fall, The pilot turned and yelled some obscenities to me about getting the water off his chopper and then we left. I was at Khe Sanh.

We landed at Lang Vei ( well just outside Lang Vei) the Lt said we were moving to Hue tomorrow morning, Seems the Marines were having a frickus and They needed the Army's help on the flanks. We were to meet with some 101 unit in Hue and move in Phu Bai direction.

No patrols were sent out from us anyway.

That was one of the Darkest and noisiest night I spent in that shit hole.

Thumbs up

Great remembering Ron. Woman I wrote to saved all my letters I wrote her and she gave them back to me a few years ago. I read them once a year. Tough reading sometimes but some smiles to. Thanks for sharing.

Those things are made by nature. It's from a eucalyptus tree that has been hollowed out by termites. The one I seen in the Aborigines home wasn't as colorful as the ones in the pictures, I guess he thought that paint didn't make it work.
Although there were some carvings on it.

ps
