GrandKids asked us
Papa why do you and Nana like to watch those old black and white movies? They have seen only color TV and can't relate to those days when we had small screens and only black and white with maybe 5 channels that went off the air on or about midnight.
We said this is all we had as kids. First came radio and black and white tv and soforth. We told them we recall watching the following - We had Shock Theater - witih Svengolie and Marvin and the Dead Beats We had 2-Ton Baker the Music Maker We had Tom Terrific and his dog Mighty Manfred We had Boston Blacky We had Flash Gordon We had Our Gang or Little Rascals We had The East Side Gang We had Topper We had Mr. & Mrs. North We had the Thin Man We had Captin Video We had the Hardy's (Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland) We had Mighty Mouse I'm sure we had more than that but I can't pull them all out right now. So we had our stuff (all English) and unlike the kids channels today.

Boats,
Yeow!!! You hit on some shows I hadn't thought about in decades! Mr & Mrs North, Topper, Boston Blackie...all great ones! I remember a cartoon show that you had to put a piece of clear plastic on the TV screen so that you could use a crayon to draw features for the character in the show to use...like bridges and stuff. Can't remember the name. I remember a mystery serial called "I Led Three Lives"...Was it Richard Denning that starred? Anybody remember watching "Your Hit Parade"?

Wow
Trying to remember some, Boats hit a lot. Remember Perry Mason, and Richard Diamond PI, before color. Remember Mickey Mouse Club in B/W before color, American Bandstand also.

Ahh, the green plastic thing you put on the TV. Are you ready? WINKY DINK
Came right up with that.....and have no idea why. Anyone remember the plastic thing you put on your black and white screen to make it color? As I remember, a neighbor got one. It was blue tinted on top and green on bottom. Didn't work at all well unless watching something on tv depicting the out doors. I couldn't find a pic of Bert either. Bobby Jordan of the Dead End Kids went to war as an infantryman. He died at age 42 in a VA hospital in California. He had cirrousis of the liver. Very bad alcohol problem. Pack

Don't remember the b&w to color gizmo....do remember that the TINT control on the early color sets was TERRIBLE!
Turn it a tad too much and you had purple grass and green people!

Head hurts from thinking.
I remember "Science Fiction Theater" - now that one I always watched.
Yep we grow up - but the kid in us really doesn't want to.

Packy,
I'm DEFINITELY impressed that you remember that! I'm NOT impressed with my memory, 'cause I don't remember the name WINKY DINK. I do remember that he had a kind of light colored star-shaped hair-do and he had a dog.

Took me a long time, long time to figure why the stage coach wheels went backwards on TV. In my current role that is known as sub synchroness rotor activity and associated with bearing to rotor instabilities like oil whirl, oil whip and steam whirl. Oh my, going backwards and forward at the same time. Sure Doc, it matters not, just relating a wonderful e-mail exchange I had with Andy. He began with classic Andy style “Damn You” and we joked about the derivation of the thought "Badge, I got no stinking badge”. We had fun with it and that is the important part, we had a bit of fun and a jib jab experience. In that venue accuracy isn’t the prime criteria, but relating is. Bottom line; Andy knows a person of value of the heart and is not some plitical bully tripper driving a hate agenda. Respect is earned and not forced. And sometimes give a gift to our tavel mates along the journey is Ok.

Thanks you guys for reminding me of all the old tv shows. One of my favorites was The Bowery Boys, I think I like that "bad boy kind of guy". It was interesting to see so many of the Little Rascals died so young and so tragically. Thanks Steve for the post.
