James, great pictures but not sure what Dan means by "adopted" unless he considers being born in Virginia a yankee state. Don't forgit, he's from the land of the big cheese..... He probably means that I spent quite a few years of my life in Pittsburgh, then moved to West by God where I caught up with him. He may need to see my SCV Membership card.

Great Pics! I do love the one with you wrapped up in the true Jawga flag. Knowing that you don't drink, how in the world did they talk you into that? Fred looks like he's going out with his ancestors to slay the English. The group picture is one to remember. See ya on your next march to the sea! I am glad you had such a great time.

I said that wrong--I should have said adopted son of South Carolina, I know about the Virginia part--and the Grim Reapers too.
I posed with tha flag voluntarily--hell I don't need to get drunk to act crazy nor stupid neither. I still say its the icon of America's Worst Idea Ever but what the hell, Ive had a few worst ideas of my own.
I'm quitting arguing over the Civil War but I aint done arguing about the Vietnam war and the Iraq war.
But the Civil War still touches me like no other war except maybe the Vietnam War. I loove to walk old battle fields and Chickamauga was the first big CW site I'd ever seen. I like to walk around and figure out which way they came, using literature to recreate the battle

Here's another pic for you Pack, the only rebel flag allowed to fly in any Nat'l military park, the Confederate memorial at Chickamauga
I believe--and Fred correct me if I'm wrong--that this is because that Chickamauga Military Park was put together entirely by veterans of the battle bothe North and South. It was the first National Military Park
God bless--I fought for a few Lost Causes myself and had kin that fought for that one.

James

Default The right time and the right place and doing the right thing

This was just the right time to go cruising the CW sites, cool, just a little wet. It rained a teeny bit in Chickamauga but it was a gorgeous day in Stones River and Shiloh. I'm going to do a seperate posts in the CW section but I wanted to show some of the beauty I saw there.

Default So then I went to Memphis

Stayed overnight with Larry in Bartlett, north ofMemphis.
Thanks Larry, youre a special guy and I enjoyed the hell out of hanging out with you. You got a real nice place and I would have liked to have spent more time with you going over your stuff, you got quite a collection!
But hanging out in downtown Memphis was cool, I'd only driven through there once before.
Course I had to go down to Beale Street. Larry tells me they been doing some disastrous redevelopment down there, breaking down a bunch of historical buildings but what was left was pretty good.
We tripped down Beale Street for some great riibs--they got "Wet" and "Dry" here which means, respectively: Slabbered and Unslabbered with BBQ Sauce. Now out west we got 3 kine: Hot, Medium and Mild--it all comes Slabbered unless you say: Hey don't put no sauce on thet!
Picked up on some good Memphis sound Blues, found a good music store

Been there, done that, got an outrageous t shirt

Anybody who knows me, know that it there's a street car in a town, I'm going to ride it
