![]() 'Mornin' folks! How the hell are ya this mornin', anyway? Well, coffee's on, ya best get some and grab a seat. Make yerselves to home. Paper'll be along directly, I reckon.
Wll, I figger I wouldn't a got very far today if I hadn't said somethin' about the marine Corps Birthday a bein' today. 10 Novemeber 1775 is when the first paper came out of the fledgling government of what would become the greates nation on earth. On the 10th of November in 1775, the Continental Congress passed a resolution which said in part: "...Resolved, that two battalions of Marines be raised, consisting of one colonel, two lieutenant colonels, two majors, and other officers as usual in other regiments; and that they consist of an equal number of privates with other battalions; that particular care be taken, that no persons be appointed to office, or enlisted into said battalions, but such as are good seamen, or so acquainted with maritime affairs as to be able to serve to advantage by sea when required; that they be enlisted and commissioned to serve for and during the present war between Great Britain and the Colonies, unless dismissed by order of Congress; that they be distinguished by the names of the first and second battalions of American Marines..." Samual Nichols and Robert Mullens were the first Officers in the Marine Corps. After the Revolutionary War, the Marine Corps was disbanded. A few years later, the call once again went out for Marines, and we've been around ever since. I could stop there, 'cause that pretty much tells the story of the Marine Corps. A build up to war time, a cut back in numbers, strength and money, and once again, the call goes out for Marines. Again and again over the decades and centuries, so has it been for us. ...and we've always answered that call and been there for our nation, The United States of America. The United States Marine Corps has changed the nature of war forever, each and every time we have fought. We have changed and initiated strategy and tactics that others have tried to emulate world wide... from the cording on officers 'hats', to lightning quick battles, to plumb dog cussedness and marksmanship that others can not hope to match. Three of the five most dramatic changes in warfare were initiated andperformed by the United States Marines during the last century, not the least of which was close air support for ground combat troops. Guess who was involved in the first close air support sorties by Marines? Ayup. Chesty was in the neighborhood. Lookit up. You'll see what I mean. Those changes, in my beilef, come from two things. One: Get the mission done, two: get the mission done no matter what. What? Oh, the third is the reason for the first two. Other Marines needed help. That is our brotherhood, you see. That is America at her best. Whatever it takes, get the mission done. Take care of each other. We are free men and women and we can do nothing else, for it is not right to do anything else. Get the mission done, and help those who share with you yer dreams and the danger in and strife in accomplishing those dreams. That is the brotherhood of the Marine Corps in very short form. Our beginnings are in the beginnings of this great nation. Our brotherhood was forged with steel in those beginnings and the torch of freedom has ben pased down, generation by generation to those of us today. It is my hope and my joy that we, as Marines, have not dissapointed those who came before. They stand proud beside us on this day, remembering, as we remember and know. Freedom isnt free, and as those Marines who came before, we are yet willing to sacrifcise for each other and for those men aho yet call themselves, American. Happy Birthday, indeed, Marines. Happy Birthday, indeed. "Here's health to you and to our Corps Which we are proud to serve In many a strife we've fought for life And never lost our nerve; If the Army and the Navy Ever look on Heaven's scenes; They will find the streets are guarded By United States Marines. " The Marines' Hymn From the Halls of Montezuma To the Shores of Tripoli; We fight our country's battles On the land as on the sea; First to fight for right and freedom And to keep our honor clean; We are proud to claim the title of United States Marine. Our flag's unfurled to every breeze From dawn to setting sun; We have fought in ev'ry clime and place Where we could take a gun; In the snow of far-off Northern lands And in sunny tropic scenes; You will find us always on the job-- The United States Marines. Here's health to you and to our Corps Which we are proud to serve In many a strife we've fought for life And never lost our nerve; If the Army and the Navy Ever look on Heaven's scenes; They will find the streets are guarded By United States Marines. Who needs coffee! Where's the beer!

![]() Bones...Just a short Birthday wish for you and yours. Never had the chance to work directly with the Marines but fire for them a few times down in Kuwait, at that time the Corp did not have MLRS but sure liked the results it produced. Hoping you and yours have a thousand more, will hoist a cold one or two in your honor today.
