Dang, this is one of those PF moments when EVERYBODY is making a w h o l e lotta sense...

Where or where have WE gone wrong :-)!

p.s.
I canNOT use that "g" word either...and for the exact same reason, I'd bet... lemme see now, "Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you President 'g' word... not to mention what it might and does mean to those who have actually seen it (such as me, having been an ambulance "attendant" )... oh well, I digress.

Default Big buck "monkey see, monkey do" test baloon?

Beyond a doubt the broadcast stations and cable networks watch each other like a hawk to see who gets away with what or things that work or don?t work. In terms of the half-time show and the commercials, most everyone had ten toes over the line pushing the envelope to see who was going to get away with the most. Without the Jackson planned/impromptu mam grab episode, I suppose there would have been a lot champaign glass clinking and toasting the winner.

However what seems to be happening now is more akin to ?hold on a sec buster, not so fast now?. Most Pro sports outfits bill themselves as ?family entertainment? and I don?t see the NFL busting that mold and moving on to new ground, but who knows. My only direct experience was with NASCAR (West Coast Charger Series) and I know for fact that they were the Black Death when it came to anyone who violated the family entertainment image, or at least they were as of 1992 when I retired from the sport.

So, I suppose we will see which Pro sports outfit moves on to new ground and who stays put. In the final analysis, it is they and they alone that can enforce some discipline of content on the various networks. It may be jump ball as to whether they do or not, we?ll see. One thing for sure is the issue is going to be a very hot topic in the various Pro sports board rooms this year, I?ll bet on that.

Well,
when Al departed my beloved Oakland (I moonlighted there off my museum job, taking tickets, solely for the sake of watching "The Snake" throw another pass) for the high and mighty LA Coliseum (so as to fit in more paying customers), and then did Marcus Allen like he was done.. . and then begged to come back and got the people of Oakland (through their "government") to PAY more taxes for the priviledge of Al's Raiders coming back into the fold there back home... well, a man becomes discouraged about the meaning of the word "Justice".

So, I dunno anymore Scamp... seems like the NFL traded a whore for a wife. Which is, as any man knows, a mighty poor trade.

Cannot find it in my heart to give a crap who wins or does not anymore, but I do know that I prefer breasts to flag pancho brat singers.

Am I outa line again?

Default Blue.....

At a time I was a Raider nut as well and well remember that zany cast of characters, including the ?Snake?, the Tuz, Lyle, Otis, etc. But anymore I don?t care for Pro sports and quite frankly was not at all familiar with the Carolina Panthers until I dialed in the super bowl to just have a look-see, maybe for old time?s sake, who knows. My experience with NASCAR made me a very poor and restless spectator so maybe that is the issue. I loved that sport and if anyone wants to know how to loose five or more lbs in less than a half hour I can recommend running the top grove at Mesa Marin speedway in Bakersfield, Ca. Zow and yikes, what a rush! But anyway, that experience spoiled me as a spectator for good.

As to the choices of a breast or some howling idiots by some flag name, I?ll vote for the former and skip the latter entirely, if ya please. It?s just the venue and circumstances of the episode that I find cheep, usurious and degrading, that?s all. Who would have thought that Jackson?s boob would upstage an excellent game like that, but it appears to have happened and the whole upstage scenario stinks, period.

Yup, it does stink Scamp... good ole Raiders of yore, so many truly amazing players.

The one NASCAR event I try to see every year is Talladegah, all out... one of my cousins has it on EVERY Sunday or whenever else it might appear, knows more about the sport than The Lord hisself :-)

Loved them old raiders and my main man Stabler-met him one time in his bar down in Gulf Shores -sat and talked with him and consumed a lot of beer(not Carling Black Label)-he can really tell some tales-wish I could remember the name of that book he wrote-I loaned it out and as usual I never got it back-that bunch of boys really pulled some good ones especially back in training camp.I saw the Snake against the Univ.of Tenn,he got the downs mixed up-thought it was 3rd down but it was really 4th and he threw the ball out of bounds to stop the clock-they had the ball down on our goal line and we were ahead maybe 3 pts with time almost gone-we beat Bama that year-i bet Bear Bryant chewed that ass good-That was the good old days-football just aint the same anymore.

Default Sure Blue but ..........

Talladega is a universe away form the NASCAR I was involved with. The Bristol event is what west coast NASCAR was more about for me. While living in Eastern Tennessee; near Kingsport, Bristol was just thirteen miles away so that was a must do spectator deal for me. Like driving in a potato chip bowl and going round and round till ya are dizzy, that is what short track racin is all about. But I have to say that Talladega is one of the best races to be seen anywhere. And sure, I miss them old Raiders and the game hasn?t been the same since. I guess my last straw of the last straws is when some of the players started to die of steroid caused cancer. Tragic stuff for sure.

Scamp

P.S. Bandito, while living in Tennessee I got a real kick out of the bumper sticker that said: ?Avoid the rush, hate Bama early?. The Vols won the National championship that year and it was orange and white all over the place.

seascamp,I just live 12 miles south of Knoxville-still got my UT season tickets we seem to be sliding backwards since the championship year-the Gators are more hated now than the Tide.Been to Bristol races many times-I had yearly tickets to Bristol,Talledage, and Charlotte-I quit going about 4 yrs ago-they got to commercialised-to much money for the poor old boys down here where it all started and they kept making me park my camper farther away from track each year those good spots reserved for VIP's now-got to be to long a distance for an old man to carry that cooler of beer and bucket of chicken.I was at the 1st race ever at Talladega-that was awesome to see those boys come down the backstrech at over 200mph bumper to bumper and jockeying for the lead we used to set on the front row in the backstrech(cheap seats)the 1st time they came down thru there it blowed my hat off and the lid to my cooler.I used to love going to them I hardly ever watch them on tv anymore-I keep looking for that Black#3 car.

Scampner, Bandito -
Talladega, dang they go fast and loose around that one... almost like a real race (says he the '94 Toyota Tercel jockey :-)

I piss and moan about the cost of tickets, and the good ole days and stuff too... it's just real different is all. I took tickets at Oakland Coliseum, like I said... just to see the second half from anywhere in the stadium I wanted to be... all the greats were among 'em in those days... met Kenny in La Vegas, signing books... just reached out and shook his hand and said, "Thanks man."

So Scamp, Bristol was a short track kind of race, kida got a hair tight on one's left side I'd imagine after awhile :-)
