Bob,

Thanks. I love military history and sharing it with folks, young and old. I especially like speaking with the college students since, as they are history majors, are very interested in hearing about Vietnam from those who have been there. The professor does not limit it to one person or one branch, and has officers and enlisted.

She also tries to have vets from different time periods since things were certainly different during Tet than before afterward.

I am here to listen to and evaluate all points. It is meaningful to my understanding of the war and why we went to war. When I was their age there were still World War I vets around and I wish I had spent more time with them listening to their experiences.

You've already made their mind up for them.

No, they surgically removed the chip long ago and replaced with an upgraded version. I'm due for another upgrade soon.

If, as you say, your friends have a mind of their own, then give THEM the option, and let them deside whether to stay or go.

Any of the people I've met I thought would be interested in this site, I've given the information to. I didn't decide who to tell because I was trying to save face or friendship. I let them decide. The information was given to them, and what they did with it was their choice.

I can't relate to the VN part, although I've read some of the forums. I said in an earlier post(a couple of years ago) that this site was and is an educational site to me. I fully believe that the VN section is a help for you as is with many others. It's a place to relate with others that have similar experiences. There is a bond with other VN brothers that is so different, no one else can relate to it. Only those who lived it can feel the bond. I don't have that bond because i wasn't there. But the stories that have been told in the forums is education to myself and those who wish to experience it with your eyes.

Compare this post to a sailing ship, it started out on no set course during stormy weather. It ran into some smooth seas, with a bright sun above. Yet, it became cloudy and driven off course again and again and in the end lost all direction. A drift with a crew of uncertain ideals and instructions, it's Captain hell bent on not hearing from the crew, it's run it's course. Delivered no cargo, discharged no passengers, and carrying nothing in it's hold, an aimless voyage on a hostel sea....

SH,

It has not run its course. I'm a crewman still on the mission. I will continue to follow through to the end. The cargo will be delivered.

Not an aimless voyage as far as I'm concerned. The individual will be held accountable for his statements and others must justify their opinions.

Don't give up the ship.

Covan, if you'll man the helm, I'll muster up the sheets and set them into the wind! Sail on!

SH,

Not a sailor, but there must be some seawater in my genes. One uncle was a Marine who served in WWII in the island and on Okinawa. Went in when he was 39 years old. Another was US Navy as an electronics technician. One other was on the USS Hamilton as the logistics officer.

My son is a Navy nuclear propulsion officer on a ballistic missile sub.

I have a nephew who served 4 years in the Coast Guard and is now a Pennsylvania State Trooper.

Proud of the all.

Guess I went astray and went into the Army.

I take it he's a least six feet tall? He had to be to get into the shallow water yacht club. You know in case the boat sinks they can walk home, lol. I better watch my ass on Rt. 80!

Naaa, you didn't go astray, you probably heard so many sea stories that last thing you wanted to do was go sailing!

Very Honorable family background you have!

SH,

You're right he is at least 6' tall. Don't worry about I-80; he's working the Schuylkill Expressway near Philly right now.
