Myanmar military replaces general in charge of Western Regional Command

The Office of the Commander-in-Chief of Myanmar's armed forces (Tatmadaw) has reshuffled two key regional commanders, abruptly transferring the chief of the country's crisis-prone Western Regional Command.

Announced by the Tatmadaw on 28 May, the move comes against the backdrop of a deteriorating security situation in Myanmar's Rakhine and Chin states where ethnic insurgents of the Arakan Army (AA) have stepped up pressure on security forces since late 2018.

Major General Soe Tint Naing, who had headed the Western Regional Command that covers Myanmar's two states bordering Bangladesh and India, has been transferred to the Northwestern Regional Command, while northwestern commander Maj Gen Phone Myat will replace him at Ann, where the headquarters of the Western Regional Command is located.

Note: There seems to be alot of movement in Command Centers of late. Don't know if this is the standard routine or something else but seeing alot of Command Changes!?
