Unhappy Trying to Find Marine Buddies

I cannot be the only one to get so frustrated by this. Here's the scenario --> I am open to suggestions,PLEASE!

I know this is a LONG SHOT, but I am looking for a United States Marine Corps buddy of my husband's. They served together on Marine Security Guard Duty in Damascus, Syria.
The only information we have on him is the following:
Name: Daniel D. Andresen.
Approximate age: 28
Residence: Home record was Hampton, Virginia.

How can I find this guy? I tried the online white pages and emailed and called everyone I could find. I went to every MSG and Marine Corps and military site and even the Veteran Affairs sites...I searched to no avail and never found a service that would look this guy up for us. We don't even know if he's still Active Duty or not! We do NOT have his social security number! So now what?
:cd:

I'd be ever so grateful for any suggestions you may have.
Many thanks and Semper Fi,

Andi Grant (wife of USMC Sgt Brian Grant)

Default Big Problem - Big Problem

I can definitely relate to your problem.

Most of the tools available on the internet, produce similar unsatisfactory results, however there is a way.

1st - you need to obtain the Social Security Number of the person you are looking for.

2nd - you send a letter addressed to the missing person, include the SS# in the address, and send it to him c/o the IRS U.S.Treasury. By law they have to forward it to the last known address in their records.

The hard part is obtaining the SS#

you can fill out a Form 180 and send it in, you may get licky.

I have a form 180 on my web site at the very bottom of this page http://www.3rdmarines.net/combat_action_ribbon.htm

It's an online form that you can fill in and then print for mailing.

Good luck

Default Form 180

processing Form 180 will produce the DD-214, which should contain his Service number which I believe will be his SS# depending on when he enlisted.

Will it work, Bob? I downloaded the pdf file and see all the questions it is asking for. We are not "next of kin" nor an Employer. We know very little information about him. Isn't there a phone number I can call for Veteran Affairs?

Default I went to the White Pages

I went to the White Pages on the internet.

Put in my friend's name for each state I thought he might live in. Turned up several guys. Wrote them letters and low and behold he was one of them.

Thanks Keith.
But, "been there, done that." I ended up calling someone who was a cousin of his who lost touch with him. He gave me a phone number but it turns out Danny moved and no one knows to where! I was sooooo close!

I even went onto AOL and tried searching for anyone with "Andresen" or "Marine" or "leather neck" "Devil Dog" "USMC" or "Marine Corps in their member profile! That took me a week and I sent out about 50 e-mail. I received 3 or 4 replies. UNREAL!

His last name, Andresen is not as common as you'd think. It's the spelling that's unique. I think I will try EVERY State in the U.S.

If I find him, you'll hear a whole lot of hootin' & hollerin'! and some "ooo rahs, too!"
Tx,
Andi
