Trump Threatens To Attack 52 Iranian Targets, Including Cultural Sites

President Donald Trump said he was ready to make strikes on 52 locations in Iran, including Iranian cultural sites and sites he deemed important to the country, if Tehran continued to threaten the United States.

Trump tweeted the threat on Saturday night after Iran’s leadership vowed to take revenge for the U.S.’s assassination of Maj. Gen. Qassem Soleimani, the commander of Iran’s elite Quds Force and one of the most powerful military figures in the Middle East.

“Iran is talking very boldly about targeting certain USA assets as revenge for our ridding the world of their terrorist leader who had just killed an American, & badly wounded many others, not to mention all of the people he had killed over his lifetime,” Trump wrote.

“Let this serve as a WARNING,” the president added, “that if Iran strikes any Americans, or American assets, we have ... targeted 52 Iranian sites (representing the 52 American hostages taken by Iran many years ago), some at a very high level & important to Iran & the Iranian culture, and those targets, and Iran itself, WILL BE HIT VERY FAST AND VERY HARD. The USA wants no more threats!”

On Nov. 4, 1979, armed Iranian students aligned with Iran’s government took 52 Americans hostage at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran during Iran’s Islamic Revolution. The U.S. diplomats spent 444 days in captivity until they were released on Jan. 29, 1981.

As I said on an earlier post - Congress had better be involved in signing off on this type of attack. We can anticipate something at any time - but announce 52 targets is just asking for trouble. I wonder what the history will write about all these ongoing saber rattling discussions.

Again I state Congress must sign off on these threats and/or a full Declaration of War be announced before these actions are made. There has to be some coordinated sign off not just - I'm the President - launch all we got - statement.

We don't want another full blown WAR!! Damn it! There has to be a civil way to wind this down to prevent a full scale invasion or bombing of the entire Middle East. What does NATO say to these provocations? Are they even in the loop? Get NATO to sign on before taking on this scenario. There has got to be a better way than threatening and then doing this!
