New satellite brings changes for off-base AFN users

Viewers of the American Forces Network who have a decoder and satellite dish at their home will need to reconfigure their equipment by July 31, according to program officials.

Because AFN's satellite delivery platform is changing from the current Hotbird 6/9 at 13 degrees east, to a new satellite, Eurobird 9A, at 9 degrees east.

The process of setting up a dish and readjusting a decoder varies according to the decoder model, location and other variables. Having a help desk and online materials is critical. Because of this, an AFN help desk has been set up and will be available until July 31. It will be manned Tuesdays to Fridays from 1 to 9 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (Central European Time).

Viewers from the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, Belgium and most other European countries can call via a toll-free number (0)0800 2362683662 (00800 AFN ANTENNA).

Online manuals and videos are also available to help facilitate a smooth transition to the new satellite.

The changes should not affect those living on base and receiving AFN.

For more information, visit www.afneurope.net or call the AFN help desk at the number above.
