Great list!

Two songs from that era that I find myself constantly humming the tunes:

Angel of the Morning - Merilee Rush

and Rocky Raccoon.

"Rocky Raccoon
Checked into his room
Only to find Gideon's bible."

Anyone remember more words?

"Hope you've got your stuff together.
Hope you are quite prepared to die.
Looks like we're in for stormy wheather..."

"Don't go around tonight
It's bound to take your life..."

"We gotta get outta this place
If it's the last thing we ever do..."

Default Hard

It's hard to believe that Satisfaction never made the top 20. AFVN radio was always playing it.

Rigger: "Rockey had come equipped with a gun to shoot out the legs of his rival. His rival it seems, had broken his dreams by stealing the girl of his fancy. Her name was McGil and she called herself Lil but everyone knew her as Nancy". (A Nancy in the 1800s was an English nick name for a hooker.)

Stay healthy,
Andy

A paradoy of Eve Of Destruction :

Americanization

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Eve of Destruction" Based on the performance by Barry McGuire
"Americanization" Parody by Red Rebel

Uncle Sam has lost it, folks. He's rubbing his hands and snatching whatever he doesn't own.

The Eastern world, it is explodin'
Violence flarin', bullets loadin'
You're old enough to kill, but not for votin'
You don't believe in war, but what's that gun you're totin'
And even the Tikri River has bodies floatin'

But you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don't believe
This is
Americanization

Don't you understand what I'm tryin' to say?
Can't you feel the despair I'm feelin' today?
If the button is pushed, there's no runnin' away
There'll be no way to live if the draft's what they give
Take a look around you, kid
It's bound to scare you, kid

And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don't believe
This is
Americanization

Yeah, my blood's so mad, feels like coagulatin'
I'm sitting here just contemplatin'
You can't twist the truth, it knows no regulation
The government prefers annihilation
And marches alone can't stop registration
When human respect is disintegratin'
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin'

And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don't believe
This is
Americanization

Think of all the hate there is overseas
Then take a look around in Washington, DC
You may leave your homeland for 5 days in space
But when you return, your flag's been replaced
The chatter of the guns, the pride and disgrace
You can blow out your brains, but don't leave a trace
Hate your next-door neighbor, but don't forget to say grace

And you tell me over and over and over and over again, my friend
You don't believe
This is
Americanization

Mm, no no, you don't believe
This is
Americanization

enough.............

Default The Dawn of Correction

- by The Spokesmen (1965); reached #36 on the Billboard Charts

The western world has a common dedication
To keep free people from Red domination
And maybe you can't vote, boy, but man your battle stations
Or there'll be no need for votin' in future generations

So over and over again, you keep sayin' it's the end
But I say you're wrong, we're just on the dawn of correction

There are buttons to push in two mighty nations
But who's crazy enough to risk annihilation?
The buttons are there to ensure negotiation
So don't be afraid, boy, it's our only salvation

So over and over again, you keep sayin' it's the end
But I say you're wrong, we're just on the dawn of correction

You tell me that marches won't bring integration
But look what it's done for the voter registration
Be thankful our country allows demonstrations
Instead of condemnin', make some recommendations
I don't understand the cause of your aggravation
You mean to tell me, boy, it's not a better situation?

So over and over again, you keep sayin' it's the end
But I say you're wrong, we're just on the dawn of correction

You missed all the good in your evaluation
What about the things that deserve commendation?
Where there once was no cure, there's vaccination
Where there once was a desert, there's vegetation
Self-government's replacing colonization
What about the Peace Corp. organization?
Don't forget the work of the United Nations

So over and over again, you keep sayin' it's the end
But I say you're wrong, we're just on the dawn of correction
But I say you're wrong, we're just on the dawn of correction

So over and over again, you keep sayin' it's the end
But I say you're wrong, we're just on the dawn of correction
