Default Drill Sergeants in basic training

I hated basic training. But, when I think back on it I think of the
funny things we sang, and what the drill sergeants threatened us with.
Upon first reporting to my BCT company, I was put in the front leaning
rest position, and told if I didn't straighten up I'd be pushing Ft.
Bragg all the way to Florida. Another time I was being admonished by
the sergeant, I was told I'd be doing push ups until he got tired.

Once, in the chow line, I turned to a recruit from another platoon and
said, "My drill sergeant is meaner than your drill sergeant!"

Oh, that was fun! It set off a *wonderful* fireworks display.

The so-called "stress cards" are just another phony internet urban
legend. Some people will fall for anything.

When did you *do* basic Tom? I took my basic at Ft Bragg also. I thought it
was a joke. On the other hand, my company always ran to the rifle range
while the others rode in trucks.

I agree it was too easy. Guys who never fired
a weapon needed more Range time and there
was too little running. My High School Coach
said I was a good runner due to Cops chasing me.

What a Revolting Development !

I was in D-7-2. I went in the summer of 68. The amazing thing to
me, was that after training we should have been in great shape, but
when we got to Vietnam and had to hump, we were not ready for the
physical beating our bodies would take.

Ah ha. I did basic in the summer of ' 66. The Basic Training Center had just
opened and the cadre were freshly DEROSed from 'Nam. They were unable to
instill that special fear that makes a DI what he is. This in part because
we all knew our ultimate destination, and few of us were wrong.
