Default Best Firearm for Home Defense?

To me this kinda depends on where you live.

If you live 5 miles from nowhere, you can use a .44 Magnum.

Other than family, you don't worry about collateral damage.

But I live in a rural area in a wooden home.

So, I have two questions for ya'll...

Will .45 ACP and 9mm bullets make it through the walls/windows and out into the neighborhood?

Would one of the "tactical" shotguns be a better option, with the .45 and 9mm as back-up?

What do ya'll think?

Default Steve,...

...

...the 12 ga. with 00 buck always seems to fit the bill for me, I know it's one of my friends that come to the house, cause they always say... "don't shoot,... it's so & so,... and then I know who it is,...

...otherwise,...

This Remington Model 870 looks like it would get the job done.

12 ga. 18 inch cyl. bore barrel with 2-shot magazine extension.

Not sure how many shots that gives it...six I think.

Thumbs up Steve,...

...

...You also have to customize your 00 buck properly making them into "Georgia sling chains",...

...you empty out the shot, and drill the smallest hole you can through them, about 1/32nd to 1/64thth of an inch, just enough to use braided piano wire, and you tie one knot, slip on a shot, and tie another knot to hold it taunt, the equally space out remaining shot linking them together in a nice patten, reinsert into the shell casing, and close them back up,...

...They dont spread too far apart as they travel towards your respective target, and they do cut through everything very nasty when they hit...

...gives us Northerners something to do during the winter months up here besides drinking, and keepin' the other half warm, and happy, takes a good set of needle nose plyers to get your knots tight, but you'll see the results with some practice,...

LOL!

"Chain shot" for a shotgun!

That's cool!

Here's a tip back for ya...

Most shotguns with factory ammo give you about 1" of spread for every 3 feet of distance.

Inside a house you ain't gonna get much spread with buckshot, bird shot, or any other factory ammo.

If you flatten the pellets slightly...just put a flat side on 'em with a hammer...you'll get better spread.

Another wicked load...AND DON'T DO THIS WITH A CHOKED BARREL!!!...is take the shot out and load the shell (12 gauge or larger ONLY) with a stack of dimes. Nasty!

"Hey, Billy....who's gonna pay me for the horse?" Billy: "Well, there's about $1.80 in ol' Bob over there, if you care to dig it out of him".

What movie?

Nuthin better`n a good ole street sweeper for defending the homefront. Same-same Lt...Rem 870 cut right back to the plug. I like 00buck or a # 2or 4 shot. Had a coon out on the porch chowin down on the dog`s food one time. Big ole boar..i opened the door and he set back and snarled at me. Grabbed above mentioned gun and told the ol lady to open the door and flip the light switch at the same time...KA_WOOOF. Blew him right off the deck. Onliest problem...forgot about the screen door. DOH!
