Default The only absolute in life

is that one day you will die.
We as VN vets are beginning to understand what the WW2 guys have been going through for 20 years or so.
You go into the US military as a bullet Prof 18 year old and by the grace of whatever GOD you believe in you come home. You first not talk about it, then you find others that had the same experience and you start talking about it to those that did the same as you, "hears to us and those like us" You hear that others before you are dieing at an alarming rate and there reunions are getting smaller, Your reunion however is in the thousands.
Then one day one of yours is on his death bed, WTF, this can't be happening to us, were not old, they are. And then more of your comrades show up in the back page of the news paper, and you realize that your group is now the old guys and the new group is having there thousand person reunions.
It's sad, But, OLD soldiers do die.

Ron

When I went to my Reunion at The Wall there were several hundreds of veterans at The Wall. Musta been 2 hundred of us from 3/5th Cav there. I walked over to the WWII memorial and there were lots of people there but only two old guys with WWII caps on and tears in their eyes. Someday there will only be a few of us by The Wall. Make the most of today , tell the people you love you love them , often. I love you guys. PS we ain't that f..-cking old !

Ron, truer words....!

Until Pighumper and me got together I was very isolated, even from the Veteran community. Never really felt I belonged anywhere. It was Phumper that got me into treatment early, both of us, and put me on the path that has lead me into helping the veteran and active duty community for about the past 27 years. It took the Wall in 1982 to really make me proud to be a Veteran. Then, you guys came along over 7 years ago on the history channel site. Except for the distances in miles that divide us, I have never been so proud as to be associated with a group of men and women since Vietnam. The trips to Psyco Mtn make me feel more love, except for Deb, than I've ever felt since leaving Vietnam. I feel like I'm home as I crest the hill and see the cabin and the guys standing around. It's like my own "Fiddlers Green" only on this side of the earth. You guys/gals have been with me through everything, from the death of my father, to my marriage to Deb. I hope I have been there for you as you have been there for me. It takes death for people to take a look at their own mortality. We all learned very young that we were not bulletproof. Your right Ron, we went over there bulletproof and came back realists. It's a good thing, but it destroyed any vestage of youth we had left. We talked long and hard about this at Sid's Birthday party last weekend. I can't wait for the reunion in late April. I find such comfort with my brothers.

Thanks Packo for saying what most find in their hearts whenever their around others that have been there, done that and the comradary that we share. Sad but true that the last thing that you want to do is the last thing you're going to do here BUT - when you leave you are felt forever by those left behind. 58,000 on the wall, my brother Teddy, my daughter Mandy, my dad, two MP's at a gate at 2200 hours in QuiNhon, that guy I relieved in the tower on Tet '68, Frank, Tiny. All gone but here with me today as much as you are. We ain't gettin older, we're gettin closer.
