Found guilty of murder three years ago, a Saudi prince has been executed, according to the country’s Ministry of Interior.

A statement released by the ministry claims that Prince Turki bin Saud al-Kabir has been executed, stressing "King Salman’s keenness on enforcement of security, justice and God’s judgements," according to Al Arabiya.

The statement added that "legitimate punishment would be the fate of whoever tries to assault innocent people and shed their blood."

The Prince was found guilty three years ago of murdering a young man in the outskirts of Riyadh. "Saudi citizen Turki bin Saoud bin Turki bin Saoud al-Kabeer killed Saudi Adel bin Suleiman bin Abdul Karim Mohaimeed," the statement said.

"Authorities were able to arrest the above mentioned offender. After the investigations, they charged him of committing the crime and his indictment was sent to the General Court. He was charged with what was attributed to him and sentenced to death as retribution."

While the victim’s family could have a "diya," or a cash settlement for the death of their relative, they refused.

"No one has the right to intervene in the judiciary system…this is the regulation in our country…in case the relatives of the victim refuse mediation and insist on the enforcement of Sharia, you are asked to implement the sentence against the killer," Deputy Premier and Defense Minister of Saudi Arabia, Crown Prince Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, said at the time of the arrest, according to Arabic language daily Ajel.

"Justice must be served."

The same year of the prince’s arrest, another Saudi royal, Prince Saud Abdulaziz bin Nasser al Saud, was flown to his home country from the United Kingdom to continue serving a prison sentence. He was jailed in 2010 for murdering a male servant.

Amen.
