4 on, 8 off, 4 on, 8 off
In the towers of the Qui Nhon Airfield that's how we spent our days and nights. Two weeks on any specific shift we had a 28 hours off duty and we rotated to the next 4/8 time period. Every twenty-eighth night we'd climb into a tower during the night hours and dread that climb up the guard tower ladder since there was a full moon and we would be an easy target. On those nights we were forewarned by the Sargent of the Guard about the full moon and that Charley could see us better than we could see him.
February 2, 1968, 0200 hours, tower #2, Ray Carol Banks didn't see who shot him dead under the full moon and it was my job to take his post.
Last night there was another full moon but He brought me here to enjoy my night off.
