Our son joined the Marines,...
...
...Although not by birth, Our Son signed up to be a United States Marine tonight,... ...The kid has been a handful for the last couple of years since he joined my family, and has needed his azz jacked a few times here, and there, but he has been huffing, and puffing that he wants to be the best, and after all said, and done, we sat down at the recruiter's office tonight, and took his test to see where he quailified for, and scored an 84, and signed the papers,... ...goes to the federal building in the morning for the phyical, and delayed entry for July 09,... ...Still a fair amount of paperwork to be done, but they will handle all of that, He yearns to wear the uniform, and serve his country. The kid has turned his life around in the last year so much, he has really surprized me, but in the end, it will be all worth it,... ...So come July, we'll have Packo get in touch with a few friends he knows @ Paris Island, and we'll "reach out, and touch him" from afar,... ...

Generally, those loving Jarhead Drill Sergeants can give the proper type of huggies to turn generally uncooperative youth in the right direction.

Curtis..
Although the Marine Corps like all the others have had to change...reception and boot camp are still a real wake up call. As always, the vast majority buck up and cross the grinder on graduation day. I WILL also find out what platoon he's going to and make sure I talk with his SDI. If he ends up in Mental Health.....my friends there will have his name. I'll make sure he crosses the parade deck when he supposed to...baring injury. Grad day and the day before, Visitors Day, are a big deal down here. I suggest that you and his mother get reservations way in advance. Every hotel/motel fills up here fast. I'll also steer you away from the flea bag ones so you have a pleasant stay.

Forgot something important
Don't say anything to the JarHead in waiting....but doubt he's ever been in the Lowcountry in July. This alone will be an experience he won't forgot. August and Semptember...ain't no better. Heh, heh, heh. The sandflea's are hungry for Yankee blood and the heat and humidity....welcome to Vietnam.
