Thumbs up I will Take Those Beans and Weiners

I just loved those Beans and Wieners. For an ending I liked to take the Pound Cake can, open it and then pour either the Pear Juice or the Fruit Cocktail Juice over the top of the Pound Cake. That is after I finished eating the Pears or the Fruit Cocktail first though. If I did not have Pears or Fruit Cocktail, I would use the juice from Apricots or Peaches Instead.

On the other end of the enjoyment list, I hated the Ham and Lima Beans and the Ham and Eggs. Both tasted horrible even with liberal amounts of Tabasco Sauce splashed over them.

I still have a small booklet that is called "The Charley Ration Cookbook", which gives ways of making most of the various meals more tasty by using Tabasco Sauce. I got it by mailing away to the Tabasco Company back in 1968. The names for the various recipes were very funny.

Even REMF personnel did not get to eat in the Chow Hall all the time. When it became impossible to get relieved from the Flight Line in order to go eat, our Squadron would bring out cases of C-Rations for the guys not able to get away from the aircraft. This happened mostly during the Tet Offensive and other times that required maximum sorties by our aircraft

I also have one of those small GI Can Openers that came with the cases of C-Rations. I keep it on my keyring and still use it whenever I need a quick Can Opener or small screwdriver.

To all of my Vietnam Veteran Brothers and Sisters I again wish you all a big:

Default MD

You are correct.
C rations might be issued to all branches of the service but it was the main source of food for the grunt in combat in Vietnam. The meals in the case of C rations would not always be the same from one case to another as the date of production on any case of C rations may vary widely.
