Eugene Thomas Cunningham (1922 - 2010)







Eugene Thomas "E.T." Cunningham, 88, of Belleville, Ill., formerly of Cahokia, Ill., born Feb. 4, 1922, in Cahokia, Ill., died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010, at the Apartment Community at Our Lady of the Snows, Belleville, Ill.

Mr. Cunningham was retired from Cerro Copper Products, Sauget, Ill., in 1978, at safety director. Previously, he worked at Mobil Oil Co., for 12 years. He was a World War II U.S. Air Force veteran and was a B-24 Bomber Aircraft Commander serving in the Eighth Air Force Squadron. He was a lifetime member of the Reserve Officer's Association VFW, and the Scott AFB Officer's Club. He was a retired member of the American Society of Safety Engineers Executive Committee and a past president of the East Side Safety Council.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, of 47 years, Margaret, nee Pluff, Cunningham; his second wife of 15 years, Mildred Donna; and his daughter-in-law, Carol Ruth Cunningham.

Surviving are his son, William Dean Cunningham; his brother, Harold "Babe" Cunningham; his dear friends, Lee Rodak and John Falcetta; his extended family, Doris and Joseph Millard, Marilyn and Douglas Shugg, and Terry and Benjamin Donna; and many other wonderful friends at the apartment community.

A special thanks to the staff at Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows Apartment Community and the assisted living facility for their caring service.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois Orange South Team.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, at Braun Colonial Funeral Home in Cahokia, Ill. A prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Funeral: Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at the funeral home with Father Paul Wienhoff officiating. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Fairview Heights, Ill.
