Minnesota National Guard helicopter with three aboard goes missing

A search is underway for a Minnesota National Guard Black Hawk helicopter with three crew members aboard that went missing Thursday afternoon, officials said.

The chopper, which departed from St. Cloud, was conducting a maintenance test flight when the Minnesota National Guard lost contact with the aircraft about 2:05 p.m. local time, the military service said.

“The Minnesota National Guard and local emergency services are currently trying to determine the location and status of the aircraft,” Master Sgt. Blair Heusdens said in a statement.

The St. Paul Fire Department said on Twitter they deployed a rescue squad to respond to reports of a downed aircraft “following a mayday.”

The Minnesota National Guard did not confirm their helicopter went down.
